Default Glowing Exhaust Manifolds, Car wont rev past 5K

95 Trans Am 220K miles on chassis, <3K on rebuilt top/bottom end however it has all the factory exhaust(even the cat) and i recently started smelling a burnt smell every time the car was ran for a while and last night i happen to pop the hood and noticed the manifolds glowing orange, in addition the car will not rev past 5Kish so my question is does this sound like a clogged Cat?

Put a vacuum gauge on the intake port, any of them since there are many. Let the car run at idle with the gauge connected. While watching the gauge put in drive and brake torque it. Buy doing so hit the gas real fast to the floor, the gauge will bottom out to zero or go negative. IF it does, and after you let off the gas it goes back to positive say 10 or higher. THEN and only then if it does what I say it does, It means that your CAT is clogged!!!!! This is the fastest, easiest and 9x out of 10 fool proof!!!!

Clogged cat, drop the catback and break it up with a big screwdriver and then start the car and blow it all out.

Check fuel pressure to see if it's running real lean.

Could be an injector wire that is grounded causing an injector to be stuck open and dumping fuel in the cylinder. The car would run like garbage if this was the case.

Will test the FP soon as my grandfather gets home...Also to be clear it seems to run "smooth" under all conditions even WOT then it just hits a BRICK at 5k rpms and its like its hitting a REV limiter, other than than despite being smooth running it feels down on power throughout the band.

did you gut it? have you tried running it with a open exhaust? mufflers have been known to come apart internally.
