Default MSD Digital 6 vs 6AL-2

I'm torn between these two ignition boxes. It's for the Trans Am in my sig. It will get a shot of nitrous down the road but currently doesn't have any nitrous. I really just need it for the 2-step for now. My main question is, can I get the 6AL-2 and add a timing retard **** later? What are the pros and cons of these boxes? Longetivity? Performance?

I can't speak to the 6AL but I used the Digi6+ for years on my Z. And loved it. Throttle response was instantaneous. Timing retard and 2 step right on board... I just sold it a couple of weeks back because of the 24x.

You can't go wrong with that unit. Easy install to boot.

I have a Mallory 685, it's easy to program. I like it. I haven't connected the nitrous yet though but have the same plans. It has retard and rpm window switches.

i have the mallory box. simple to wire up. havent sprayed with it yet but the way to program it is super easy. i have it mounted between the back of my console and the back seat. in the trans tunnel. there is a bypass plug that is used so the opti doesnt go out from the extra power through. i have it mounted to where i can open up the console lid and unplug it and plug it in with out getting out the car.

What's the best retard box to buy if you already have a 6al-2 hooked up?

I ran a Dig 6 when I street drove the car, never had an issue with that one. Upgraded to a 7AL-3 but I would never street drive that one.
