Default lt1 EWP problems

I installed my summit/csr ewp and my summit pump install kit. First drive the black twist inline barrel fuse holder melted the (fuse did not blow) and i lost power to the pump. Made a blade style fuse holder drove for hours no problem there. The 30amp breaker that came with the kit seems to keep tripping causing the pump to turn off and on. Any ideas on whats causing it?

The red box on the passenger side next to the battery. I dont know the proper name for it. The way its wired basically power straight from the battery and the switched power is ran from the main unfused (buss bar?) Inside the fuse panel on the drivers side fender

It may be worth upgrading all the wires to a larger gauge. If you're melting plugs but not blowing the fuse it's over taxing the wiring. I'd also check for loose connections and splices, could also be a bad ground. Usually breakers are not intermittent, if it is, it's a bad breaker.

The pump should be wired through a relay.

It is wired through a relay. Main power runs from the battery to the 30a breaker to a relay. Switched/signal power is pulled from the fuse panel on the driverside fender. The pump and relay both share the same ground at the lug on the passenger side fender.

I will look into upgrading the wiring to probably 8 gauge and a heavier duty breaker. The pump i have is rated for 55gpm at 12v pulling 6.1 amps. All slices are good i also used heatshrink connectors.

Did you actually measure what amps the pump is pulling or is that the specs that you posted? Might be a bad pump.

I don't know why you have a breaker and a fuse. I only have an inline 15 amp buss fuse.

Which pump are you running? A 15 amp buss fuse is probably for a pump that flows less gpm and has less draw. The install kit i have is the same as the Painless kit just summits brand. I wired it by the diagram it came with. Utilizing the 30amp breaker, the relay and a 30amp buss fuse that came with the pump.

You just need a relay & inline "weather pac" blade fuse. 15 amp

You likely have a generic EL. Fuel Pump type fuse/relay kit which comes with both 15 amp fuse (although a BS barrel fuse) and a 30A circuit breaker for multiple applications.

My Painless Wiring kit was like that 17 years ago when I wired mine. I have the Meziere

Just use the relay & Blade 15a fuse

Wow, you may want to get a hold of the pump manufacturer and let them know how many Amps the pump is pulling. That's 2-3 times it's rating.

Measure amps of the pump running.

The Meziere pump only has one inline blade fuse. And like you, I am running main power from PS red terminal through a relay and switched ignition from DS junction box. I wired it once and off I went, zero issues.
