I think the best looking 4th gen Camaro is the 96-97 SS. I really like them painted hugger orange with the white hood stripes. Red ones next of course. I've never really been a big fan of the 98+ style Camaro front ends, and I own two of them. As for Firebirds however, the 98+ WS6 Formulas look the best to me.
LT1 engines sound so much better than most LS1 engines. Even a nearly stock LT1 with a catback sounds pretty sweet. It typically takes several bolt-ons and a cam to make an LS1 sound good. I absolutely hate the rasp LS1s make around 2800 rpm with an offroad exhaust. UGLY sound. Thats why I hate wide open Borlas on LS1s. Wide open Borlas on LT1s sound absolutely awesome.
Of course, you can make LS1s sound good also, it just takes much less to make an LT1 sound good.
I'm not sure why some of you think the torque of an LT1 is better than an LS1. I've dynoed 100s of each type of car, and if you overlay the dyno graph of a stock LS1 on top of a stock LT1, the LS1 has it beat across the board on hp and torque. The main difference is that the LS1 revs smoother and runs quieter. So, the rumble and audible clues are less on the LS1, which might make the LT1 seem more aggressive in perception. We pretty much dispelled that "LT1 makes more torque" statement back in 98 when the LS1s came out and we dyno'd the hell out of them in stock form.
Another advantage seems to be the LT1 style T56 tranny. Seems like you guys have better clutches available. LS1 hydraulics are kinda sketchy sometimes, always have been.
Good discussion, keep it up!
Oh yeah, and this final note: Joe Overton for LT1 President! He has my vote

That is exactly what I plan on doing with my SS in 05. Hugger Orange w/ white stripes. I'll have to post some pictures when the project is done.

IM with you guys...I absolutely love that underdog feeling esp...having a formula people look at it as even slower...I actually had a ls1 for a lil while but for a street car I think its more fun to own something that u get to feel the torque without haveing to pull the car up to 80mph...I absolutely love how much it costs to mod.. I just bought a 2300.00 383 shortblock w/ forged diamond pistons callie 4 bolt mains etc... and no one will ever hit that price with a ls1...I dont care if people say yeah well that motor is the same as it was 50 yrs ago." Because when all they see is my *** then the past just beat the future huh?
I was thinking about getting aanother LS1 but I think instead im going to buy this 97 30th w/ 35k on the clock that I found locally...Its an auto hardtop which makes it 1 of 73 I believe...so now Ill have the race car with a 6 speed and the show car with an auto go figure...

My 93 Callaway Camaro is in 69 Hugger Orange, I even had it in hugger orange prior to its transformation to Callaway status. Thats my all-time favorite Chevy hue. I wished they would of painted the 97th anniversary models hugger orange with white stripes. If any yall want to see her just send me an email. Take care

well i got to say that this thread made me decide that the lt1 is the one for me since im on a budget and they are cheaper, plus that's what scared me about the ls1(price for parts)so now i am selling my 7th mustang(don't kill me yet,at least it wasn't a honda)and trying the camaro.

LT1 because I know the motor inside and out and you can't bolt any set of SBC heads you want on an LS1.
At least I know where all those beer cans I recycled back in the day went....LS1 blocks.
