Default heads and cam lt1, 420rwhp??

Hey guys, i gotta question for ya. A buddie of mine is building his lt1 and the guy he bought his heads from guaranteed him 420 rwhp. The car is a m6 with a stock 10 bolt w/ 3.73's. It will have all the bolt ons w/ long tube headers and the intake will be port matched w/ the heads. The heads are going to flow mid 270's on the intake and 190's on the exhaust side. The bottom end will be a bored over to make around 355 ci w/ forged pistons , stock rods and crank. I cant wait for him to get it out and i hope it runs great but i think the guy selling the heads told him a little much. What do you guys think. Those numbers seem high to you?

the LT4 hotcam conversion kits claim 426HP (flywheel/crank). that may be what the guy selling it quoted and your buddy misinterpreted.

Its possible. There are more and more 400+ rwhp stock bottom end cars out there. A 355 will only help, but you are going to need a heck of a tune and ALL the bolt ons.

400+rwhp would be a good number to shoot for. You would probably need a custom grind cam to hit 420rwhp.

It can be done. Ever heard of Lloyd Elliot. He makes great heads/cam setups. One of witch will make around 420 rwhp w/ all the mods that go with it. I advise talking to him. I have been for the past week or so and he has helped me a great deal. He knows what he is doing.

Thats awesome. There is more to making power then just what "heads flow better". But it sounds like you know what your doing. I think cmotorsports does custom grinds. You think about the 847 or you want something differant then that too?

Are they GM LT1 castings/LT4 castings or what? Next where did you have them flowed and what pressure? Those numbers seem really good to be GM LT castings, Not to mention Loyd isnt far from that w/ his LE3 heads and the flow is at .600. I assume he can sell you just a cam!
I found some specs on a cam that would best fit my setup. Only Im using a Solid Roller. Bought it through thunder Racing for $260, Its a comp cam, although not a shelf cam that I know of. Even w/ my mods I dont expect to see much over 400 rwhp. You sure have some High expectations. Mods are on my cardomain page 4.

The motor I built for my car was very similar. Heads flowed 276@.600 and 200@.600. The cam was a CC306 (230/244 54/576 112lls). Shortblock was a 355, stock crank, stock rods and TRW forged pistons. With hooker longtubes, mufflex 4" with a Spintech muffler and 10 bolt w/3.42's and 17x9.5" wheels I made 424rwhp and 401rwtq.

Not to hi-jack this thread, but what do you need to spin 6800 rpm w/ 350 ci displacement? To do it "safe" should i re-do the whole bottom end forged? Or will just forged pistons do? Pistons and crank?

There are no plans of spray or FI yet, so it is for a N/A car.

Thanks

420 is a reasonable goal with great flowing heads, full bolt-ons and a nasty cam.

If you're looking for a custom grind, I would get with Bret Bauer SStrokerAce on CZ28.com.

It can be done, Steve at Thunder, Futral and a few other places can set up a good custom. Having a 10 bolt will help, since you have less loss.

400+rwhp is becoming more and more common from a full bolt on heads/cam lt1. Hell a guy over on cz28.com with ported AFR 210's and a Joe Overton cam hit 452rwhp on stock bottom end. When I do my heads/cam I will expect nothing less then 400rwhp through an auto and stock bottom end. I highly suggest you contact Joe Overton for a custom grind cam. PM me if you want a contact as I'm not sure I'm allowed to post it since he's not a sponsor.

Yeah 425 RWHP nowadays is not all that hard and doesnt' require a HUGE cam or heads that flow monster numbers.... it's all about the combo.... and the tune...

My previous setup was a 2 bolt 355 with SRP pistons, Eagle 6" rods, stock crank, and racenet LT1 Stage II heads that flowed 258cfm at .600 intake and 203 cfm at .600 exhaust. The cam was a 236/242 .556/.576 112lsa off the shelf comp cam extreme energy. Intake was ported with a 58mm throttle body, Hooker Lt's with a 4" mufflex exhaust. 30lb injectors and a piggyback DFI system that was tuned by Joe Overton.

Car put down 422RWHP and 397RWTQ..... And that was with a tune that Joe barely optimized since we were trying to tune out a backfire (I accidentally crossed #1 and #3 plugwire).....

Like i said it's all about a thought out combo and your car will KILL the dyno. My heads weren't all that but they fit well into the combo of parts.... My new combo is LT1 based with AFR 227's and i'd like to make 475RWHP with a TH400 and a 4000 stall converter (easily 500+ RWHP if I still had a T56 which those dyno #'s above were made with).....

Quick Reply: heads and cam lt1, 420rwhp??
