Default Have a slight Ticking!!

ok well ive been hearing this ticking noise when i start up, and when i rev up to about 1500-2k rpms!!

it goes TICk, TICK, TICK....TICK.........TICK................TICK!!

well when i rev it up it gets a bit louder...and ive noticed the sound comes from under the car on the passenger side, but is louder underneath than on top...

form what i might know, i could have a loose rocker that jsut needs tighten...its not hitting the valve cover, but making a tick noise!!

what could this be and how bad could a collapsed lifter cause?

please help asap

thanks

Randy

It sounds like an exaust leak in my book as well. Exaust leaks are more apparent on cold starts. I know because i have one along with firehawk 07.

To make sure it is not a rocker check it with a mechanic stethiscope or screwdriver to ear trick. You said it is underneath, i think it is the collector gasket or the header gasket. I had a manifold crack on me when i had manifolds as well. If it is exaust then the condition will only worsen.

my car ticked like a **** for the longest time, everyone told me it was a bent pushrod. After a few weeks, my opti went out. Once i replaced the opti, ticking was gone. Weird?

that sounds like an exhaust manifold leak, i had a really bad one on my 93, but it would only do it when it wasnt warmed up.

well...i checked out the roller rockers and made sure they were all good!!

everything fine....

maybe ill check out the exhaust leak, and tighten up some bolts of they came loose!

BUt i do have Mrgaskets...so u dont have to worry bout leaks..

Another thing is i have a small leak on the driver side of the header flange cause it bent one day when i bottomed out with the LT's....

so i havent fixed that yet, and this was a WHILE ago...but i hear the noise coming good from the passenger side of the engine but sounds louder from underneath!!

maybe it oculd be a leak on the bottom side of the header?

ill check it out ASAP!!

i have a OPTISPARK, and have had it for a while now and no problems, so i doubt its that....

no burnt wires, cause i have OTVC kit from thunder and they are spaced far from the headers!!

i do have hard start ups sometimes, but i think its the gay weather here in houston!!

i dunno why those starts up do that...

As the others check for an exhaust leak but also keep an eye on your oil pressure....could be a bearing.

Gaskets dont really matter. In fact i have 2 types on my car right now. I have an expensive aluminum crush gasket on the driver side (40-60 bucks a set) and i have felpro on the passenger side.

The aluminum one has given me nothing but problems with leaking. It takes up too much space between the header and gasket + makes my bolts back out quickly.

The felpro one has not given me problems at all.
All this means is no gasket is invincible, and expesive isnt always gonna outlast cheap.

These gaskets were put on after i learned my lesson on using SLP gaskets that came with my kit.
