Angry f'in opti crap

put the whole motor back together....go to start it after it has been down for 6 months and the scan master tells me the opti is dead and the motor runs like ****.

1) is the coil conversion worth it?

2)pros of the dyna spark?

3)or should i stick with the tried and true opti...?

id make sure it trully is the opti and not the coil or ignition control module. if it is truly the opti id stay with the opti. no reason not to. when taken care of correctly itll last a long long time.

what code did you throw? my opti did the same thing after being down for over a month... i threw DTC 16 which is loss of high resolution pulse signal in the opti.. the weird thing is the car still runs... what symptoms are you experiencing when the car runs?

I went with Delteq and love it....smooth all the way through the RPM range, simple to install and well worth the cost IMO.

What year is your vehicle? (I'm guessing 1994-1995 if the scanmaster is giving you DTC's). What exact code did it throw?

If you're getting a low-res opti code (DTC 16), then a coil conversion will not help you. Coil conversions only take over the high-voltage 'cap and rotor' portion of the optispark. The optical sensor/photo emitter/chopper wheel in the rear of the opti would still be required. Thus, you'll have to buy a new optispark -- regardless of a coil conversion.

The low-res signal of the optispark is used to determine when to kick on the fuel pump, when to fire the coil, and when to ground out the injectors. In other words, the ignition and fuel delivery system can't function correctly without it.

You can live without the high-res signal (DTC 36)-- it's used for timing purposes. You'll lose performance, but it's not as important as the low-res signal.

i got my delteq barebones for $361+$145 new coilpacks on ebay+$30 for plug wires = $536...great deal if you ask me....also, check your wiring and connectors from the opti to pcm....more times then not wiring is corroded, soaked with antifreeze, or broken
