Default 15 degree heads for only $1,300!!

I was surfing around on gmpartsdirect.com and WoW they make a 15 degree SBC head designed for NHRA comp eliminator, with 37 CC chambers, and 210 CC intake runners for only $650 ea.!!! they are PN 24502615 can these be modified to fit an LT1?! would they require substantial porting?

Anything can be changed for the right amount of money Don't forget if you change to those heads though ur gonna need some new headers which are gonna cost a good penny also!

I believe those are the heads that "mindgame" over on cz28.com board is running or similiar. Things that need to be done are.....1.convert for reverse cooling....2. get new pistons with custom valve reliefs or fly cut current pistons for new valvetrain angle.....3. fab up headers...this could be made easy if u used your existing headers and then just cut and weld new primaries from a custom header kit to make it all fit nicely. 4. A lot bigger intake...think victor converted to EFI to get the HP these heads are capable of. 5. A stout lower end, prolly with the block filled a little bit because with 37cc chambers that is going to be a lot of compression with any type of piston resembling stock and more compression equals more heat. With that said...these are arguably the best heads ever to grace an LT1....mindgame made close to if not over 500 rwhp on the heads N/A!!!!!!!! Good luck with the swap.

thanks for the insight jordan, few more questions, do they REQUIRE porting? I want a head that will make 325CFM at .700 lift, I will be going to Iraq in may, and when I come back I plan on building a BIG power Solid roller Forged 396 LT1 Im talkin 675 RWHP, Using a gen7 DFI pcm, then put a 300 shot of N20 on it to run low 8s. I may also have to backhalf the car, if so ill have to put paint and new nose clip plans aside.

I think lloyd elliott can flow 310cfm @650 or so out of ported LT4 heads. That's pretty close.

Not a chance...the LT4's just don't have it in them. Those 615 heads are about the stoutest you can get without going to a custom O-ringed rectangular port custom head...i.e. prostock. Yes they will require porting to accomodate whatever intake u are going to run and also for minor cleanup..or major port work depending on cam/ rpm/ power adder etc. hope this helps.

Furthermore....just fyi...I think you would be hard pressed to have a N2O setup motor....thats only 396ci throw down close to 700rwhp N/A. Mostly due to the camshaft, heads being inefficient w/o the spray. If you are going to go 8's...I would go a huge single turbo setup or twin turbo if money allows. A 355 with all forged internals that could spin approx 7500rpm could throw down some wicked power with that. Especially with these uber high performance heads you're looking at...a custom cam...and maybe a 50 shot of the giggle gas for fun. Can you say ON THE BUMPER????!!!??!?!??!

Im also finding that Ill need a set of offset lifters, and Jesel offset shaft rockers, (old NASCAR bush series junk) to move the pushrods over enough to clear the intake port.

Yeah right. These heads have the most potential of any head currently available...I wish mindgame was on here to post. Just for comparison....a fully ported LT4 setup, with a hogged out LT4 intake, solid roller cam, sitting on top of a 396ci high compression short block might get in the neighborhood of 500rwhp...maybe...maybe....just maybe. In comparison the "615" heads, as they are referred to in many racing circles, with a sheet metal intake, or victor intake, solid roller cam on the same shortblock has the potential to crack 600rwhp...think Nascar Cup motors then you will get the right idea. There is almost unlimited flow potential out of these heads...just noone has yet tapped into it. Except for "mindgame" who has cracked 500rwhp with this setup, but his cam could get more aggressive along with bigger ports/valves, more compression etc. Ahhh....I can see it now....a completely N/A motor, with 13.5:1 compression, fully hand ported "615" heads, larger valves, Jesel rockers, a custom solid roller cam in the neighborhood of .700 lift with some crazy amount of duration, a hogged out victor intake manifold with big ol injectors that has the potential to spin close to 8 grand on a 396 or 410ci LT1 shortblock. It would sound like a winston cup car. And could put down some amazing numbers as long as the builder had all his **** together and knew what he was doing. I wanna know if you go through with this...it could be the next Joe O......heh jk joe I know you got some more left in ya.

I've brought this up in a couple posts here and there, but LG has put together 355 CI race motors with ported stock LT1 castings that have thrown down 480 at the wheels.

But it is not cheap. Notice the term "race motor". You will not have the driveability of your average heads/cam street setup, and you will pay dearly to get a replica made. Better heads can only help streetability.

Well I leave for Iraq in may, then my pay will almost double, so Ill start ordering the parts bit by bit while im over there, I dont care how much it costs, It will prolly be the most power ever made in a N/A LT1!! I called LME to ask questions about the setup, and the guy was wetting his pants over the phone lmao....hes like yeah we could do this to the heads, and this, yeah and that oh boy!... lol

Exactly.....its almost as if noone has ever done an all out combo like this before...should def produce some stout numbers. Another option on the intake side is to get a sheetmetal intake fabbed up by hogan or LME for some added trickness under the hood.

you will always see sick motors like that where no corners were cut at all. Custom pistons, extensive welding, extreme tolerences, expensive coatings.... baiscally an all out motor.

Default The problem....

The problem is, how to get it all reliable and inexpensive. That's what keeps the interest coming and the vendors/businesses interested right? Because when you have all that money going into a motor - why not just get a LS1? 18* heads etc - no need for a LT1 at that point. The LT1 has the cost advantage - if you plan on doing serious research (especially for any kind of business venture) then you need to play to the reason a lot of enthusiasts keep the LT1 around - COST

inexpensive yet as powerful and as easy to make power as LS1's ..... i feel like the interest is there and it WILL happen **ONE DAY** (not very soon though!)

But in the meantime, there's always Lloyd Elliott and un-molested AFR 210cc heads!

Yeah but to be the fastest anything, it costs money, do you really think building a low 8 second Nitrous LS1 would be much cheaper? NOT! Ive already got a good foundation, Lightweight car (3100 lbs) Turbo 400, 12 bolt.. All I gotta do is get the rear narrowed, and throw some 10.5 tires on her, then worry about the motor..If it costs 15,000 to build the damned thing, well, I guess ill be buyin parts over the course of a year lol.

The heads will cost $1300, I will port them myself, (mainly just smoothing) then I will need to have valve seats installed ($250), valve guides installed ($200) and buy some BIG! valves ($400) then a valve job ($200) and convert to Reverse flow ($600) Prolly for under $3000 ill have heads that can outperform any 23 degree or Gen3 sbc head ever made, sure beats the $4000 for some AFR 215 Raised runners.

The rotating assy. will be about $2500 for callies crank, some sort of GOOD 6" rods, and custom cut reverse dish pistons ballanced,

I can clearance the block myself, Im already 4 bolt main, Ill want a jesel timing setup ($900) and front drive distributor, crank trigger ignition setup ($1000) electric water pump ($200) good Ballancer ($200) Good Solid roller cam ($450) offset Lifters, Pushrods, offset shaft rockers, springs, retainers ($2000) victor Itake manifold (400) Throttle body ($500) Fuel rails and injectors ($1000) and Thats about it. and of course all the crap Im sure im forgetting, yeah $15,000 it can happen. 700ish flywheel HP, and a small shot of juice.

in the mean time ill need to at least get my 490 Flywheel hp ( I hope) beast's ignition straightenned out so I can run some low 11s and maybe finally start harnessing the juice.

Not the easiest setup but it can be done. Why else would I be sitting on a EFI/N2O Hogans intake and a matching set of 18* heads

Just a little 411 for ya, there is a set of STOCK CASTING LT1 heads here in town that flow over 300 cfm with a 2.00/1.56 valve. 310 cfm on a LT4, I dont see any prblem with that...with the right hands on the grinder.

My Dad and I have a set of Pro-Action 235's, 23* that flow 330+ cfm@.700 on a conservative bench(West Coast Cylinder head) And could go a little further. And for about the same money as the 15* head this guy is looking at(with no port work) without all the exotic parts to make them work.

500 rwhp has been done more than once with a stroker LT1, stock intake, with a six speed.Dad and I gonna try and do it with a auto.

only suggestion to that setup is I would have a professional shop port and put the heads on a flow bench to make sure they are matched...and THEN pick the cam based on those results. That way there is no guess work. Damn nice.
