Default LT4 hotcam?

i was just thinking a little more about using the LT4 cam... i'm going to leave the heads stock except for getting the 1.6 rockers and doing a little porting myself. im going to just put the stock lifters back. the machine shop says i need to order a .030 over rebuild kit too and im probably going to put short headers and get the computer re-programed. im going for a better engine but nothing too crazy. that cam should be fine right? any suggestions?

You may want to look into the cc305 unless you already have purchased the hotcam. If you have the hotmcam then what you are doing should make it work just fine. I am runnng a cc306 in my car but it took a few more mods than I had orginally intended to do.

Hotcam is fine for a street driven car. The tune would help a lot, check out PCMforless, Bryan does some great Hotcam tunes.

If you are going .30 you might want a bigger cam. I have a cc305 and heads and it is way too small.

Summit, I just put one in for guy and he got his from summit for @ $500 for the entire kit, cam rockers, proper shims, retainers, keepers, springs. Too easy. Or if you just want the cam, ebay or gmpartsdirect.com or paceperformance.com or scoggin-dickey-----> SDPC

If you don't have emissions to worry about, go with something a tad bigger.

anyone recommend a particular cam? just keep in mind im using stock springs...but i have seen kits that come with rocker arms. i also am a little confused about the 02 sensors, i thought they were part of emissons, but if i get short headers the holes might not be there for them? i know to just take the smog pump off and egr and just block the holes. i was going to replace the 02 with stock ones. i appreciate all of the responses, i wouldnt get very far without them.

The manufacturer will specify whether or not the headers are emissions legal. If they're emissions legal they'll have the O2 bungs pre-installed.

I haven't seen a header made for the LT1/LS1 application that didnt have the o2 bungs welded in.

Emissions Legal just states the EGR and AIR is still available on the header.

"Race" or "Offroad" headers will still have the o2 bungs, but no EGR/AIR availability.

I would say go bigger as well unless you have strict emissions that you can't pass. I loved my Hotcam when I had it and it was great for how inexpensive it was...especially since you get the RR's with it. But the novelty wore off soon after and I wished I would have gone bigger.

Also be very careful doing a home port unless you have porting experience or have researched it.....you can very easily ruin a head with a slip of the dremel.

Didn't see that you were rebuilding with an overbore, I would probably go with a 224/230 in your position.
