Question LT1's quieter than LS1's?

This is interesting...I've had the chance to drive around both my LT1 & LS1 a lot lately with the nicer weather so it has been easy to get a good feel for each...

Both of my cars are stock-motored running a GMMG cat-back system, highflow cat (LS1 has two), & headers. The LT1 has MAC mid-lengths while the LS1 has Kooks longtubes.

They each sound great and obviously somewhat different in tone. But I am surprised at how much louder my LS1 is than my LT1 even though they basically have the same exhaust set-ups. The LT1 is a bit louder below 2000rpms, but after that, the LS1 has it all from there. At WOT, there is no comparison (the LS1 is waaaaay louder and more aggressive sounding).

Anyways, I was surprised because I had always heard that LT1's were louder with all things being equal...But I guess not...

the sound should be a direct result of air flow and the Ls simply flows more. ive never heard that Lt's are louder only that they sound better and id have to agree.

LS1's sound like dogshit compared to an LT1 with both having equal exhaust of course.

Just my opinion though.

As AAron said, your answer is in your LT's!

Wow, I had no idea the longtube headers made that much of a difference in the total volume (considering both cars use cats). Well, once the MAC's rust out someday, I guess I'll be putting a set of Kooks LT's on the LT1 as well.

Although my LS1 does NOT sound like dogshit compared to my LT1 as they are nearly the same set-up (except mids vs longtubes). In fact, my LS1 sounds a lot better to me than many LT1's I've heard before...Just depends on the entire exhaust set-up like you said...

LS1 + LT's + Borla = Crap. Atleast compared to my friends LT1 + BBK shorties + small cam + Borla. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that LT's will make that LT1 sound even more badass.

I've never heard an LS1 in person with Borla, but I've heard clips and I've seen people say they sound like ***. Since my friend has borla I decided to compare the two.

LT1's just sound more like a muscle car. No need to get mad at me because I have an LS1. It's like me saying my 01 TA sounds better than my cammed 69 Nova. There's no way.

Get mad at you? What are you talking about??

I replied to your post man, that's all. Not sure how that came across as me being mad at ya...

Anyways, I like my LT1's sound better at idle and part-throttle, but the LS1 better at WOT. And my LS1 don't sound like any raspy A$$ Borla set-up, that's for sure!

I actually kind of agree with that. LS1s scream like crazy, with true duals they sound absolutely sick at WOT. I will always like the way LT1s sound better in general, but at WOT they both sound sick IMO.

Sorry that was kind of a general statement to anyone that read the post. I was just quoting you which made it seem like I was directing it at you.

I can't way for my true duals. I've never heard an LS1 in person with them. I feel deprived.

IMO they both have their ups and downs. My car before I sold it had gmmg, LTs, cats and I absolutely loved the sound. My friend's LS1 has the same setup but with an ORY. Two completely different animals, each with positive and negative. My car had a little bit of bite in the sound, where as my friend's just flat out SCREAMS. As much as I prefer the LT1 sound over an LS1, you really have to *try* to make either one sound like **** IMO.

Yep, an LS1 with LT's, cats, & GMMG roars with a deep menacing tone like no other at WOT...Even louder & more racey sounding without cats + true duals.

Anyways, damn! Now I'm really regretting going with the MAC mids instead of the Kooks LT's I should have originally got for my LT1. Don't get me wrong, my LT1 + GMMG sounds really bassy with them, just not as loud as I'd like. That's OK though, it won't be long before the cam goes in to wake that motor up some. And I'll eventually replace the MAC's once they rust out (since we all know about Jet Hots "world class" coating ) with some stainless longtubes.
