Default Optic-Spark???

How hard is it to install an optic-spark on a 96ss?

If so, who in the Atlanta area can or is willing to install one?

How much$$?

It's a pain in the ***, you might as well do a cam install while your at it cuz it only adds a few more steps.

uh.. only a few more steps to install a cam? no, not really. It's about 2 hours of work and a few special tools. it's really not bad at all. There are plenty of guides floating aroind the net that can help you do it, otherwise just have a trusted mechanic do it for you.

ROFL....not even close to installing a cam.

It's not that difficult and the good thing about it is when you do it yourself, you not only save yourself a good chunk of change but that's a building block of things you now know how to do by yourself.

It's not a PITA, just buy a Chilton's and take your time when you're finished you'll see that it wasn't that hard at all and if you ever have to do it again you'll only get it done that much faster and save yourself that much more money.

It'll prolly take you 6 hours the first time. I am down to 3 hrs after doing it a few times.

Pull off-
serpintine belt
harmonic balancer
tensioner pulley(not nessasary but give you more room to work)

Then drain radiator
remove-
all hoses from water pump
waterpump

dry as much as you can with an old towel

remove-
plug wires
and finally opti-spark

you can't put it in wrong- just line the pin up with the deep slot on the opti. The opti should slide right on up to the block- it it isn't flush with the block you missed the hole- this can be a tedious chore- but you'll get it.

After you get it on flush- just reverse the process.

oh yeah- I drop out my fans too for a lil extra room.

Everyone's right, it really isn't all that bad. The annoying part is coolant, it's just plain messy. Seems like whenever coolant's involved, things get annoying

$220 or so. Your sn implies that you have an LS1, why are you asking about optisparks? Just curious.

I think anyone who plans on modding at all and has a busted opti should just get a dynaspark..*drool

Buy your optispark from Jason Cromer:
