Did you go through the whole bit of selecting record aldl from the file menu. Then the screen pops up that has record, monitor, stop keys. Go to file and open up a uni file or create a new one, then open it. You can hit record or monitor to just watch and no record. Not sure if you did this, but just trying to help. I built the two transistor interface cable from a schematic on the net for about $20, all parts from radio shack. It works fine most of the times, but I do get the data error every now and then.

Try com 1.
I just got mine to work, but then quit again. Then one of my connections to the transistor in my cable broke. I have to fix this now. I would check terminal tension at your aldl, then if that's not the problem, you might have something wrong with your cable. If you can open up the serial connector case to see if anything is burned or a broken connection. Just a thought.

Don't know then. I have a selection for com 1 and 4, but I use 1. Are you using the free trial version of datamaster with the 20 free recordings, then that you have to buy the license? Just curious?

Are you using a PCMCIA card for a serial port or a usb adapter or does the laptop have a built in serial port on the back? The usb adapters hardly ever work right. I use a PCMCIA card and I was using Windows XP. My problem was that XP wouldn't let my card communicate right even though it showed it as being installed so I had to download a hotfix. This hotfix is also in windows update. I can't remember if this problem was just under XP or if it applied to ME too. I'll see what I can dig up.So you finally got it to let you use datamaster on the car?? What did you have to do to make that work?
