Default good converter for the street?

i got a 97 z28 on the way. its all stock now, but i plan on making it a full bolt on car within the next few months. next is the converter. i wont be draggin the car at all, so i want a good lil converter that will be good for the street while not putting too much stress on the tranny. i was thinking something in the 3200-3800 range. and how do i match a tranny cooler to the converter i get?? one more stupid question, since im new to the auto scene....do automatic cars usually come stock with a tranny cooler??

For the street, 3200 would be plenty. Get the biggest cooler you can, never hurts. I got the one they sell on thunderracing, the 24k gvu one, plenty big, and cost like 50 bucks. And yes, they do come stock with a cooler, but its very small. When you get a new one, you can just reroute the lines from the stock one to the one you put in, simple .

Yep, 3200 sounds about right. Some people prefer smaller and some prefer bigger, but you will be more then happy with a 3200. You can also get a converter 24k gvu with your Converter at most places. Check out FuddleRacing.com they make awesome converters for a hell of a price, and are great to work with.

fuddle makes nice converters
there are actually a few good converter companies that make very nice converters that are not heavily advertised like yank, pi, tci, etc

i have a west coast converter i cant tell you any feed back on it as i havent got to run it yet. have a friend with one of theirs and its nice so we will see when its all in one piece.

I had a racing edge, but pulled it out because I thought it was messed up, but I was wrong. It was a 3800 stall, and it drove the same as my vig 3200. I could stall it up a lot higher at the track obviously, but around town it felt the same. So far, I love my vig, and would definetly recommend it!

So a 3800 Edge drove as well as a 3200 Vig but genuinely did stall higher and you plug the Vig you lost me there.

I have a 2800 Edge in a Caprice that was destined for 20K+ a year daily driving in all weather and it is perfect for such. In a lighter f-body and the fact you probably drive it less and are more tolerant of compromised street manners 3200 in something like an Edge, Yank or Vig would probably be a very nice match for you. Recently it has become more apparent that Edge and Yank are much more custom than Vig, Vigs seem to be much more off the shelf, still good converters but for the price you would think it to be truely custom. The Edge is a lot cheaper because they do not use a billet cover like Yank and Vig, it is not something most people would ever utilize the strength of.

What i meant was that when I drove it around town, it took pretty much the same rpm to get moving from a stand still. I actually had an idle with both stalls as well, on a hill, i wouldn't roll backwards. At the track, by power braking it, I could bring the 3800 to only 3k, and my 3200, to about 2600. Thats what I meant in the difference in stall speed .
