2nd gear start question.

2nd gear start question.
well im probly going to buy a 96 TA tomarro. It is real clean on the body.
It has 81,000 miles on it.
It has a brand new motor with like 50 miles on it. The motor has a 5 year 100,000 mile warrenty on it.
Automatic
It has every option but the ws6 package.
The porblem is that the 2nd gear start button doesn't do anything. What could be wrong? It doesn't light up or anything. Could it be a fuse? A ground? Maybe a faulty switch? Something else?
and most importantly... if the second gear start button doesn't work, will it affect anything else?
I really need to know about that 2nd gear start thing by tonight... thanks a ton guys,
Nick

iveseen it on other cars before
but what im wondering is if it is all computer controled. Like is there anyhting different about the tranny than any other auto tranny in a TA? So if it is broke, it doesn't affect the tranny in any way.?.?.?
In that case the only things that could be wrong is a fuse.. faulty switch... or ground or something.
But if it has something in the trans.. like physicaly.. would it being broke cause a problem. That is what im asking.
Computer or physical???
No problem or problem if its not working?

Check the VIN on the car you are looking at.
A V8 model should be 2G2FV22
If the button doesn't work it is not a big deal.

All trans ams have v8s. firebirds have v6s... then the formulas have v8s... and yeah... you know...
So im possitive it is a v8 car. I know the original owner... it is a v8 car.. lol

To help take a pic of this button in question and post it..
***EDIT****
I wouldn't go jumping down chopstix throat about it being a TRANS AM because that is a v6 option and is not heard of on the LT1's.... alot of guys seem to have the same thought after i searched other sites and the net.
That button is used in conjunction with the computer on the v6's to keep the tranny in 2nd gear while taking off to limit rear tire spin.. you don't have a special trans since all the shifting is done electronically. This option is not used on the v8 since there is a tc motor under the hood that is used to limit throttle input under hard accel. What you may have is a swapped shifter plate or maybe a v6 thats now a v8 with new badges. best bet is to check vin and rpo codes look for P in the 8th letter vin and a rpo code in the glove box that reads LT1. If not leave it be.
