my main reason for asking, is i might try doing this on my own. im no mechanic by a long shot, but i can follow instructions, done all the boltons, and ive got a haynes book. im going to have around 4 grand into this. im thinking the last thing i wanna do is pay someone to install it, being that it probably wouldnt be cheap.

you will be fine, just dont rush yourself.
pulling the headers off is probably the hardest part of the process.

I tried it and it went ok. Just make sure the intake gets sealed well cuz mine leaked after. Fired right up first time. Just take it all apart and put it back the same way it came off. Line up the dots on your cam and crank gears and there won't be a problem.

It's very straight forward. A few tips-
-label all electrical connections. saves times upon reassembly
-loosen all oil pan bolts and get it to drop a bit so you don't rip the gasket by ripping the timing cover off
-cover opti with saran wrap, and towels to prevent coolant from water pump getting in there
-take your time!

Ok this how I get prepared:
1- Smile at all the goodies i.e. new head bolts(must have) intake gasket, cylinder head gaskets, Indian head shelac(used on head bolts because they go thru coolant jackets), Ultra grey gasket maker, exhaust gaskets, ziploc bags, and some other stuff.
2- make sure u do not RUSH yourself take your time to hear, look, and review what you are taking off....Try not to force anything out such as elec. connectors and hardware parts
3- Take pictureswrite it down dont forget where anything goes....
4- Installing: make sure the head gaskets are facing the right way Felpro gaskets have a dumb and dumber way it says on it UP, also make sure u put a little bit of grease or oil on the head bolts and washers(on the top where the socket goes on the under side, part that touches the cylinder head) so that u don't get a wrong reading when u r torquing them down. On Manley, and ARP they are fastened at 80 ft lbs so do it in their sequence... I always do them in two passes first at 40 ft lb. and then at 80 ft lbs. Make sure you do check all head bolts dont get lazy. Dont forget to put some gasket sealer on the intake bolts so that no oil goes thru. reinstall everything you took off and hope you did everything right... you can e-mail me if u have anymore questions be happy to help you out on your set up and what you should get if you havent decided yet.....

I actually just ordered some heads the other night. So you can give me a hand and then we'll have a basic idea of how to do yours. Have you decided on a new setup yet? Enough of the hijaking now, give me a call we can BS about it then.

Make sure you torque the heads in the proper sequence with the right torque. You might want to get a book or something. It will tell you all the little things that you will want to do. Like what lubricants/sealers/thread lockers, torque specs, procedural things, etc.

I'd be happy to put an estimate together for you. Shoot me a pm, e-mail or give me a call. Ask for Harold.
Thanks.
