Unhappy Oil Pressure Problem???

Upon having my baby stored for the winter, the only mods that i did to the engine was the mass air flow sensor, when it starts up it runs fun with good oil pressure but if i were to take it out for 15 mins at normal temperature the oil pressure will drop to about 40, then while at a stop in gear it will idle as low as 20?? IS THIS A PROBLEM? PLEASE HELP

I have the same problem my oil pressure is good for about 15 min of driving then it will get worse as i go and eventually drop down to about 28 when im stopped. The only thing done to my MAF is that it was descreened when i bought the car.

20 at idle is within spec

It's that low for a lot of people. Not really a problem unless you notice any other problems associated with it.

But my gauge on my T/A is fucked up so im not completly sure how close it is.. it bounces around and gos below 20 a lot... but i think the sending unit is fucked... will find out htis weekend.. installing a autometer gauge and sending unit..

My oil gauge will also flutter about 1 psi back and forth. This only happens after warmed up for about 15 min and I am stopped. Does that mean something could be messed up with the sending unit.

Possibly, mine went bad a few weeks ago but it had different symptoms. Over the course of 2 or 3 days my pressure gauge just slowly went down until it reached almost 0. I'm not that familiar with the different ways that the sending unit can fail, but i just thought i'd let you know how mine did it. Being an electrical unit I'd almost like to think it could do many things when it goes bad, but im not positive, hope that helps.

you only need 5 for every 1000 RPM's so if you are idling at 600-1000 you have more that enough oil pressure.

Yeah I would say your pressure is fine. If you are really concerned you should look into what oil and what oil filter. I run mobil 1 10w30 with an ac delco filter and I see above 40 at cold and in between 20 and 40 at idle.

I'd say that's more than just fine. When good and hot mine only runs about 18 psi or so at idle, 25-35 at cruise depending on rpm.

Min spec in the official specifications is like 6 psi at warm idle, I'd be about freakin out at that level but hey...

My car cold idles at 40psi and then drops down to 17-18psi hot idle. It's done that since I bought it new. I wouldn't worry.

how do you replace the oil sending unit. Mine lats month was at 60psi...perfect then when it warmed up went to 40. then these past couplke weeks..it has been dropping slowly, then last week went down to maybe 5 when I started her up. now the gauge just reads 0. I know the oil pump is fine..... no clanging or ticking what so ever.

how do I go about replacing it...where is it?

mine will 'drop to 0' sometimes on decel or at idle when the revs drop, but there is no problem with the car or oil flow. I don't trust any GM gauge for anything, othere than a general idea of what's going on.

To add to my above post I finally received my mechanical oil pressure tester from harbor freight (like $10 on their site) and tested my car yesterday.

My stock in dash gauge was reading around 10 psi low across the board, however it wasn't totally linear. So I was actually running around 50 psi cold idle, 25ish warm idle, 40-50ish at cruise. Don't trust your dash gauge for anything, could be significantly higher or lower than reality...
