Default 3 speed people..simple question

How do you control the shift points? I know it sounds stupid but since the computer doesnt control them how would I adjust it?

Most probably opt for the reverse manual valvebody. I probably would if I did the TH350 route. They have a series of springs and whatnot that alter the shift points for the automatic valvebody. Quite frankly, my 700r4 shifts all wrong automatically but in my opinion, too much trouble to mess with. Since I have the TransGo, I just manual shift it most of the time anyway. Definitely get the RMVB!!

I really dont want to go that route again. I had a manual valve body in my Mustang and got tired of it.
How do you adjust the shift points in a 700r4?

Same thing, springs and weights and stuff. That's not worth it IMHO either. Especially since I have NO IDEA where to start with them thangs, lol.

Looks like I'm going to need a aftermarket tach if I'm going to shift it myself. My stock tach only goes to 6k and I plan on shifting at 6800rpms

700R4 shift points can be adjusted by different springs installed in the govenor. TH350 shift points can be taylored by an adjustable vac modulator.

Can you buy the springs already setup for 6800rpm or will you have to test different springs to get right? If you install a vac mod on a 700r4 can you use it to adjust the shift points?

[Edit, darn, beat me to it...]

There's a governor that sticks in the the drivers side of the 700r4 near the rear of the tranny, there is a circular cover/cap over it usually held on w/ a wire clip type thing, once the cover is off the governor slides right out. You can fine tune the shift points by changing around the springs and weights that are on the governor. I believe Mr Gasket or B&M probably among others sell a spring/weight kit. In my old thirdgen that I screwed around with it some, it was a bear to get the cover on/off without lowering the rear of the tranny a little bit, no idea about in a corvette. You don't have specific control of individual shift points w/ governor tweaking though, it's more of an effect on everything but you do have some control over part and full throttle shifts different to some degree. I'm not sure of the exact range of adjustment you will have either, if your problems are bad enough I suppose some valvebody work could be required. Not an expert by any means but if you do some searching for 700r4 governor tweaking on boards dealing more w/ thirdgen and earlier C4s you should be able to find if this will work well enough for your specific issue.

Can't help any w/ the TH350.

That I know of there is no vac mod for a 700R4. The adjustment is kinda a test and tune thing. If you have a tech line # for Transgo they could probably could get you close.

The TH-350 also has a govenor that has to be adjusted by changing weights and springs, if you want to change the WOT shift points. The vacum modulator is used to taylor the part throttle shift points only.

That's why I'd rather have a RMVB but I guess if you don't like that then it's one or the other!
