Guys with single plane conversions and gen 1 heads, have you ever considered using the coolant crossover in the intake to do this, use the rears with AN fittings and T them together and run to the radiator? Then maybe use the thermostat blockoff and drill it for a bleeder, as this in the front is the true high point in the system?
Just thinking out loud...this is what I am thinking about doing.

seems to me(without having a cyl head in front of me) the hole was not at the top of the coolant pocket, technically it will not bleed air.

your builder is an id$%t.... the temp at the guage has zero to do with how how the cylinder head gets back at the top rear area... you have NO idea how hot your cylinder head is... you are just lucky so far... go ahead and keep beating it...
just MHO

LME is a very respected builder... Please just get your *** off the board now so i dont have to read your posts.
To make a post like that without knowing the full details (and obviously only LME will know because this guy jsut had them do the work and he is the cutomer) is totaly iggnorant.
If the head does get real hot... then is a pretty large chance that the motor temp will reflect it. seeing that the coolant goes throug the heads first...and if the heads get hot in anyway, the coolant will get hot then it has to go throug hthe rest of the HOT block.. it would show on the temp gauge.
And if it blew, LME is responsible for their faulty work.. so go ahead and flog on it... they are responsible for their workmanship.

Side Note
Some of us "old time GM-ers" have taken the time to tap gen1 heads in a similar fashion to LT1s to increase the flow through them when rules mandate iron heads and octane rating but not compression. some have noted marginal hp increases due to small timing advancements not previously possible. Whether they are 'required' or not by your builder, it is NOT a bad idea to keep them.
Best wishes.
Best wishes.

My apoligies... your builer is not an i$#ot... you are. I don't care who the builder is the car is what it is.... an LT1.
Peak temperatures at the cylinder head will NOT be reflected in the coolant temperature during a heavy throttle application for a few minutes... the coolant simply CAN NOT build up temperature to reflect what is happening at the top of the piston at the coolant jacket...
If you can't handle the truth then tough ...

Why did you start this thread? You obviously WERE concened about the rear coolant passages. You heard from several people who suggested that it may not be a good idea...
then you dissed the responses by saying "well I've never overheated etc..."
so when advised to go for it you get upset ....
The builder musk know something about the DART head that makes it exempt from LT1 cooling system rules....
Perhaps you can get the builder to post a response to this thread and let us know how/why the passages are no longer needed...I am sure there are many interested members who would like to understand. While they are at it perhaps they can confirm your warranty on line here so when it goes boom then you will get your free engine..
regards

I started this thread nearly 3 months back. I did not have the engine in yet and was wondering if the lines were needed while we were in the middle of stuffing the motor in. So I asked in this thread. I then called LME various times expressing my worries. Both Bryan and Pecos at LME assured me that they have done this on many other applications that were daily drivers and have had no problems. So i've put many miles since I've posted the thread. That is why I came on and Updated on on my situation.
I will see if I get get someone at LME to post.
Jason
And the only time I get upset is when people like you come on here hiding behind and screen calling people idiots.
