Anyone NOT running vent lines from back of head?
Anyone not running these vent lines from the back of the heads to the top of the radiator? I know there are people running like this I would just like to know who. I was assured by LME that there would be no problms(which is who built my motor). They are Dart heads by the way.
Just dont wanna have any overheating problems.

well, they are not vent lines. More actual coolant lines. I's consider those to be kind of a big deal since they are one of the main paths for coolant flow in the heads. no expert, but i wouldn't get rid of mine

i have one engine running without them. it is fine, doesnt get hot. those lines are there to run coolant to the tb for preheating, and if that is bypassed,as most of us have already done,it really serves no purpose that i can find.

that's not the function of those lines. Those lines are to vent steam out of the heads so you dont create hotspots in the cylinder head. I dont see why some peope feel the need to remove them. They're there for a reason, and they're not hurting anything.

Those lines are there to bleed out the Coolant when it turns to steam inside the Heads. One of the major differences of the LT1 from most engines is the Reverse-cooling design (first Head, then to Block flow). I have seen one blow up cause those lines were plugged. I re-designed how mine was, and I got it to work better, but don't remove them. The reason it went through the Throttle Body was that it just happen to be there.

seems to me(without having a cyl head in front of me) the hole was not at the top of the coolant pocket, technically it will not bleed air.

It's center on the back of the Heads. When the Coolant turns into steam, it builds pressure, and goes out this line. It's designed to flow out this hole, not necessarily let air come to the top of the Coolant and then bleed out. Anything under pressure will go the path of least resistance. The flow is appx. 15-20 psi, so there is alot of steam in there that comes out.
If you have to custom fit it, it should still go in. I re-designed mine, and it take up a whole 3/4 inch extra off the back of the Head.

yea man you need it. But My advice is to run an fittings and a -6 line, I believe there could be a Performance increas with the bigger lines as well. Factory lines are very small.

well you can only run the steam lines if you're running Gen 2 heads. Dart doesnt make a Gen 2 from what I recall, so he may be running a converted Gen 1 on top of an LTx block?
and our engines run cooler than a gen 1. We run a colder T-stat stock, and our cylinder head temps will be lower since the coolant is cooling the heads first, then going to the block.. only thing that would be hotter would be clyinder bore temps. but they would be more uniform
