Saw an LS1 with rod bearings that were worse than that a few weeks ago. My buddy was tearing it down for someone. He said they drove it to the shop! He said it was knocking like a mother ******. The crank journal for #1 was worn very badly. The bearing was "stuck" to the crank.

I remember reading one of your posts about a week ago and it sounded like maybe you had wiped a bearing. What kinda heads you going with?

How many miles on the motor?

What RPM were you shifting her at?

How did the other bearings look?

To what do you attribute the bearing failure?

Sorry for all of the questions, I am just a little currious.

I am looking into getting mine Ported by Port Pros, the Stage 2 setup. I got a hold of a 1993 Corvette LT1 Shortblock earlier that had blown the Head Gasket, so I am going to go look at that tomorrow. It should be a 4-bolt Main, and that will be a nice replacement for $500. I called around and getting mine machined and a new Crank will cost nearly that. Then I rebuild that, and I will be money..

About 110,000 on it. It shifts at 6100 RPM, rev limit at 6500 RPM. LT4 Timing Set will be installed, with Melling HV Oil Pump. It spun 4 of the 5 Main Bearings, and a couple of the Rod Bearings were worn out. Time for a re-build basically. I think they got weak due to when the Head Gasket blew, and the Anti-freeze mixed with the Oil. A few people said that will kill them.

I am just going to do it simple, a little 4-bolt 350. It was turning 12.7's with barely anything in it. I like that little bit of an impress factor for what it is.

I was certainly impressed with the performance for what it was. I have similar goals for my car, although you have a good weight advantage on me. Are you going to stay with the Hot Cam, or step it up a little?

I am happy with the Hot Cam, it works for me. All I wanted was a little nasty idle, and a little bit of a Cam. Alot of people say that it has alot of potential in it. When I weighed it, and everyone saw what it came in at, they were like WTF?? Then some guy wanted to buy it to turn it into a full race chassis. I was like no. That gives me the edge on the street..

Better go with the deep pan then or it'll suck your pan dry.

No. I bought it already, but I am going to bring it back, and get a new Knock Sensor, cause I will tear the old one up trying to get it out of the old Block.

Try just an OEM style pump or a high pressure. (I think they make a high pressure pump.) I have a HV but I have a 7 qt pan too.

No you dont want high pressure pump. you want high volume, thats what I run with a canton 6-quart pan. I found my pan for $170 new. there is no ground clearance issues it sits just as high as a stock.

Yea thats bad to hear about the coolant getting in the oil but thats why you rebuild better

OK now they're saying don't get the high pressure one. If you get the high volume, just make sure you have some extra oil capacity.

That sucks, at least you get to rebuild it better though.

So what usually causes the bearings to spin? Do the main caps loose pressure on the crank or something?
Sorry, I don't know much about motors when they break, most mechanical thing I had to do so far in life is replace my head gaskets and put some new valve springs in.

When it blew the Head Gasket, it sat with that Oil/Coolant in it for 5 months while I was in Iraq. That's what killed them.
