Cant save a BIN from my PCM to the laptop!!
im having problems reading the bin,
i have the aldl cable in everything plugged in i can data log but i cant retrieve my bin, i click read, and then it starts reading its 50% or so and it stops the fans kick on and then off then ding!! i get an error saying it cant read the PCM, i hit ok then it say its resetting the PCM and the fans kick on then off again and that's it, the file i saved has 0kb witch means nothing made it on the file, iv been trying to read my bin, but im have a really hard time this is frustrating, iv tried everything, i pulled the battery to let the PCM reset
iv waited for the sercurity light to go off nothings working, iv tryed CATS winflash and lt1 edit to get the bin, but nothing works iv even tried reading all the help on both programs still no luck, i know the PCM is fine car starts runs perfected according to my data logs and by ear,
any one?

I use LT1 Edit but if one of those isn't working then none are working (for me anyway). Maybe the programmer is corrupt? Have you tried reinstalling the software? Have you tried uploading anything else?

Does your battery have a good full charge? I fried out a PCM once because of voltage drop.
I have problems with reading my car also. I made some changes to my tune last week, and before I programed the PCM I decide to read it to make sure everything was working ok. I tryed to read the PCM 5 times and only got to 100 percent 1 out of the 5 times?????????
I finally decided to just try and flash the PCM and the Flash had no problems.

Did you ever figure out what was going on? I've been experiencing pretty much the same problem.
Since battery voltage is very critical I'm going to try using a different battery and see if that makes a difference.

Make sure that you are not doing anything while you are doing it. Anything, even opening a door, can cause a problem.
During the read, you should see the hard drive light on periodically as it saves data.
I read my PCM the other day using LT1Edit, and it took about 40 minures to complete.
Since the first thing that LT1Edit does is check the VIN, your copy is valid.
Try cleaning the connectors on the car plug. It worked on my car.

My problem sounded exactly like what forsale2 wrote in his first post...and the problem was my battery. I switched in a known good battery from one of my other cars, and it read the PCM on the first try. Now I'm going to load a new program to my PCM that will allow me to idle in open loop.

I was trying to use Winflash to read the bin file for my '94 Z28 pcm and was getting the same problem. (Gets about 50% then the fan kicks in and it gives me like an invalid response from pcm message, followed by it trying to reset the pcm) How sensative is the car battery for allowing the read? Mine starts and powers everything fine as far as that goes. Thanks guys!

As it was said before the battery is very critical in reading and flashing the PCM. Make sure your turn off anything that is not needed, like sterio, etc, during the reading or flashing of the PCM. Keep track of your voltage with the guage on the dash, and if its droping down into the red during communication you might be looking for problems.

Pull the fan fuse so they dont come on and drop the voltage. Also early 94 models used 2 different def files have you tried both.Likle Ed said also turn off all virus software.I had the same problem after i updated Tunercats program and had to reinstall the old without the updates i have no clue i why i had to do it but it worked

Since I put in a new Optima I don't have any problems and I loaded up a new file to idle in open loop that works great!

Are you saying that the fans are not on during the reading, and only turn on after you get the error message? If that is the case then something is not right. The fans should turn on during the reading/flashing, usless you pull the fuse like stated above.
