Default LT1 pull from top

Does anyone have a decent writeup or know of anything i can use to make pulling the motor from the top easier. I know its going to still be PITA but im not doing the cradle drop. I tried the search and didnt come up with much.
Thanks

I did mine out the top. Go on TPIS.com website and buy the Happy Hooker for 40.00 it is easy with that. The rest is th same start to disconnect things. Be Aware of your oil pressure sending unit on the back of your intake take it off before you pull it or you will brake it and it cost 35.00. It does suck to do but take your time and make sure you have a buddy ther to help. Pm me if you have any other questions i also have pics to help you get and idea of how it came out.

I did mine from up the top. It's doable. Just be paticent. I have heard that that happy hooker thing is nice to have. I think if I were to do it again (God forbid) I would go out the bottom though.

i did mine through the top WITH the oil pan on AND the intake manifold, you just have to tilt the block sideways and angle it in properly, like is1eddie said, just be patient because it is time consuming.

This post comes up about once a month, eh?

http://www.akmcables.com/l99.htm

There's a Happy Hooker in action. It makes it easy.

I did my last swap out the bottom, because I was putting Eibachs and Bilsteins on at the same time. I must say that I think the top was easier, if just doing an engine swap. You don't have to disconnect the brake lines or mess with the power steering. Less fluid slopping around.

Dumb question.
Are you guys pulling it out with the tranny attached or not?

why would you pull it out the top? the car was designed around the idea of droping it out the bottom

there are 11 bolts holding the entire tranny/motor combo in there are 5 on the tranny and 6 on the k-member. i pull these motors all the time and can drop the entire combo out the bottom in under 2 hrs using nothing but (2) 3 ton jack stands, a craftsman 3 ton jack, and a craftsman motorcycle jack. just jack up the car, put the motorcycle jack under the motor, and take out the 11 bolts. it's very simple just unhook eveything that catches on the way out (aka brake lines, tranny lines, coolent lines, swaybar brackets, and other little misc stuff)

i tried the out the hood way a few months back and wound up getting pissed off at the situation and droped it out the bottom anyway. it's just to convient

just my 2 cents

thanks
robbie

hey i appreciate the info on both ends. But im going top, thats why i asked. I do not want to remove any brake lines and deal with that mess. Not to mention i only have a 1 1/2 car garage to do this with. I have a friend that pulled his out of his formula from the top by himself in 3 hrs. Just getting opinions and thanks again

I pulled mine from the top using the happy hooker. I didn't have the height to
drop it out the bottom in my garage.
If you send me a deposit your welcome to use my happy hooker.
Shoot me a PM if interested.

Bottom here, took a total time of 7 hours myself. That's taking the Engine off of the K-Member, and putting the car back together to transport it.
