lloyd elliot and head gaskets
i'm purchacing some le2 heads and i asked him what head gasket he recomends and he said use impala head gaskets.i didn't at the time ask why, but know i'm wondering? does he mean the 1996 impala ss head gaskets, what will it do raise comp. alittle? by the way mine is a 1997

Bret my buddy nonosvt has some Ported heads that Lloyd just did the port work (He didn't do anything else, a local shop did the rest so I don't now?) with the LE2 cam on a rebuilt bottom end they used pistons that will give it 11:1 with the Felpros head gaskets, could we use the Impala or better yet the thinner Mr Gasket head gaskets and the compression would still be friendly. I suppose it would make it 10.4-10.5 or so???
Thanks, Ben
Thanks, Ben

kinda on topic. would a whole Felpro headgasket set fit an F-body app. Like if I were to order a felpro headgasket set for my 95 T/A would the Impala Headgasket set be the same except thinner headgaskets?

It's 11:1 now with the .039-.041 Felpros? Going to the Impala gasket will help bump the compression ratio up more. That setup is designed for 11:1-11.5:1 easily. The thinner gaskets are not going to lower the compression they will raise it.

I may try to talk him into going with the Mr gasket head gaskets then

Someone mentioned the LT4 gaskets and those are THICK much like the stock aluminum headed gaskets. Lets get all the "usual" gasket thicknesses in one post.
Stock aluminum gasket is .049
LT4 is .043 or .051 I am not sure which have seen both numbers repeatedly??????
FelPro is .039 decent choice for a zero decked block
"Impala" gaskets are actually on all the LT1 b-bodies and .029
Mr. Gasket is .026 PN 5716
Cometic has a bunch of sizes available thickness and bore but are picky about finish IMO best left to freshly machined blocks and heads, cost a lot but are reusable a big plus.
Stock deck height is usually in the neighborhood of .025, I have only measured 3 myself and they were .022-.026, you want quench to be ballpark .035 for most LT1 builds obviously on an untouched block even the thin Mr. Gasket .026 is unlikely to get you below .045 unless you have a freak block. This is why when doing heads and cam the vendors usually try to get you to go thin like the Impala or Mr. Gasket gaskets they get you as close as is practical without signifigant machining.

should you go with cometic? and how think are they or can you get them diff thicknesses?

Although I could be wrong.

Every time you post I get smarter, thanks for the heads up info !!!

FelPro's are the all around standby for that. Cometics are nice, very nice and you can get them made in any size you need. I run them on my builds but I only do that if I know the surface finish of the block and heads.
