PCV system : using a breather, or stock setup?
I was just thinking about this while reading the intake oil leak thread. How many people have really looked at the LT1 intake? I'm curious how many are running a breather vs. the hoses and what your reasoning is. If you look closely at the intake, it vents air from the bottom side up into each runner (small hole in each one) and also has two holes just inside behind the TB.

I am running two breathers in my LT1, PCV valves left intact and working. Instead of the oil cap on the passenger side, I have a breather. Driver side valve cover was replaced with one out of a TBI engine, it provides the engine now with the oil filler cap on drivers side, plus one more breather on same cover towards firewall. Seems to run way better, it builds less crankcase pressure, and no oil leaks.

I was cleaning it up a few days ago before I put it back on the new/rebuilt motor. I was trying to decide if I was going to do breathers or oil catch-can or something and I noticed the little holes in the runner and was thinking about where they were going...

Since you blocked off the front of the manifold with a 1/4" plug in the pic, are you going to blockoff the opening on the drivers side of the manifold as well? If I can eliminate some hoses in my engine compartment, I'm definitely going to do this.

The plug is gone now. I removed the PCV stuff and used a breather before but I put it back to stock PCV setup with my new engine.
I was just wondering who all has their PCV stuff still or did away with it. And, also wondering why? And, if they took notice of the design of this intake.

I've run it both ways...I used to have a breather where the oil fill is and one in the rear of the passenger valve cover, and plugged the TB...Now, after reading and understanding how the system is designed to work I purchased a Deustch filter/breather #BF412 and installed it in place of the 90 deg plastic elbow in the passenger valve cover and closed the system back up with no breathers..and still no oil in the TB...

The little holes in ever port are used for IAC/EGR distribution as well. You might not use the EGR anymore but bet you use the IAC.
Once you understand the purpose of PCV on a street vehicle you would be a fool to consider deleting it. Using a breather instead of the TB hookup allows unmetered air to get into the engine if you retain the PCV.

I just did some messing around with all that stuff when trying to find the cause for my rough idle. I ended up going to Home Depot, which is a sin now that I work at Lowes, lol. But for like 11 bucks I think it is, you can get one of those seperators. I have mine mounted above the valve cover on the passanger side. So far all I have cought is condinsation and such, maybe a bit of oil. I have been told by a few people to not run a breather, just because it is unmetered air. Some people say it matters and other don't. If they aren't expensive, do it. If there are some problems with the car later, such as a rough idle, then take it off.

Can some one else back this up. I am not trying to discredit you or anything, I would just like to get some more info before I go changing what I did.
And some pictures would be nice, too.

Ok so not to hijack the thread or anything, but I have been doing some more research and found that it looks like you are right, it needs to go to the PCV valve. So does anyone have any pictures of their install on an LT1. I am trying to figure out how im going to do this and all and I am getting confused.
Thanks

Man, how many PCV threads we going to have? We're on three active ones now.
As of 2 days ago, I switched to the breather. My 93 doesn't work like yours though, my PCV goes directly from the Pass valve cover into the side of my throttle body.

bmccary I snaked mine to the front cross member support using SS lines. No longer using the Jaz can breather I upgraded to a real oil water seperator. There is an inlet and outlet line for the seperator. My only thing is whether or not the line is too long and needs to be short as possible to be effective?
