Default Which intake is better??? Ram Air Or Cold Air?

I currently have a K & N FIPK and was wondering if getting an air box instead would have better airflow since it would be straight into the throttle body. Would it be capable of a few horses over the FIPK??

Ram Air is worthless on an LT1 Camaro.
Works good on the birds though.

Youre K&N FIPK is better than Ram Air.
Although some of these guys are converting to Lids... which is a little better then a normal CAI.

On a street car "ram air" is nothing but cold air anyway and by the time ram air realy provideds any worthwhile pressure the drag it creates begins to be a factor.

my ram air hood is a joke. the air has to go through a million baffles in order to get to the acual intake filter. if that were all gutted, it would be amazing. theres a way to do it .. have to get onto that

remove the baffles and cut the opening inside of the hood..it works.

those baffles are there so you don't get water into your engine when it rains, and nothing more

Not if you cut them out MUAHAHAHAHA

just requires a small hobby saw and some time and patience

oh and the screen on the nostrils themselves are to keep bigger stuff out, those baffles in Engineer speak are called water traps, because the air can turn those corners faster than water the water hits the baffles and loses speed and falls down into the "collection area" where it simply drains out of the holes on the bottom

Im designing some removable baffles kinda like the LS1 guys have for their WS6 hoods. so that way I can drive in the rain with confidence.

Worthless? Expensive maybe but not worthless. The LT1 needs all the help it can get when it comes breathing.

I think what burnzilla meant was the SS ram air, it had way too many bends and plumbing, it came in the hood took a right turn then turns again goes into the filter box then down to the front then turns again and then goes into the MAF then finally into the intake

i have a 94 lt1 z and i had the kand n cai then bought the ascd ram air hood and slp ram air air box. i cut out the baffels and man what a difference better acceleration felt more power off the line and then around 70 80 mph pulls alot harder. o and by the way i sealed it with the foam stuff they send with it. deff. worth the change

My stock SS intake was a joke. As stated above, there are 3 bends in it and it hovered over the driverside exhaust manifold which I'm sure was just so conducive to have cold air. I felt an improvement when I switched to the K&N FIPK. PLUS, the SS intake is taking up a huge chunk of space in the middle of everything.

Since my car came with the ram air from the factory, I left it alone but decided to purchase an extra "lid" so I could cut out the baffles/slits to make it one big opening. You could actually see where the air was coming through the filter and the unused area by the black marks. I did not take the baffle out of the hood since the car does see rain occasionally.

I have been wanting to do the same thing to my lid, but I keep forgetting to bid on them on Ebay, anyways, my car sees alot of rain too, thats why I am trying to get that plate I was talking about, anyways, whenever it does rain I just drive my jeep.

Did you see any difference in throttle response after cutting the lid?

It could have all been in my head but throttle response did seem a bit crisper. It was obviously really easy to do. I am working on smoothing the entire intake passage and the next step is to replace the ribbed piece that runs from the air box to the throttle body. I'll post some pics when finished.

Quick Reply: Which intake is better??? Ram Air Or Cold Air?
