lol.. anythig can be made fast.. but you need boost to be the "fastest". Period.
Guy on turbomustang made 600+rwhp though a 9inch,big stalled t-brake 3 speed on a
chevy 350 he took out of a mid 70's truck that has all cast parts (pistons .40 over... what was in the truck). That was with junk *** smog heads that had 1.72 intake valves!!!
He put good hardware in it, cam, and put parts in the head to hold boost. This is also with twin stock GN turbos and homebuilt turbo setup with TPI injection with holley 950 commander controlling it...
Did i mention this motor has 150k on it before he beat the **** out of it? Also... did i forget the 125 shot of nitrous that he is pounding it with?
A big inch forged LSx motor with boost is gunna make ****** GOBBBBSSS of power.. not jsut 700.. lol....

oh... to add to my above post... He is now making 700rwhp with the same short block with just slightly better heads (our stock LT1 heads are better), different cam, upgraded turbos and only a 50 or 75 shot of nitrous....
THATS OVER 900 HP AT THE CRANK ON A STOCK CAST BOTTOM END!!!!
Motor has to be blessed by god.. lol

Its an engine after the LT-4 and before the LS1. It has 2.5 valves per cylinder and a reversed reverse flow cooling. It only came in the 96.5 Vettes and was only produced for a few hours before production started on the LS motors.

heres the wikipedia explaination:
Immediately prior to the release of the second generation Small-Block, General Motors released a largely unrelated engine which also used the LT name. The LT5 was a special engine indeed. It was an all-aluminum 349 in³ (5.7 L) small-block V8, but was entirely different from any of the other Chevrolet 350 engines. The bore and stroke were both different at 3.9 by 3.66 in (99 by 93 mm) instead of the usual 4 by 3.48 in (102 by 88 mm) and it featured a Lotus-designed 32-valve DOHC head. It was hand built by specialty engine builder, Mercury Marine. This engine produced 375 hp (280 kW) and 370 ft·lbf (502 Nm) for the 1990-1992 Corvette ZR-1 and jumped to 405 hp (302 kW) and 385 ft·lbf (522 Nm) for 1993 to its final year in 1995, thanks to cam timing changes and improvements to the engine porting. 1993 also added 4-bolt main bearing caps and an exhaust gas recirculation system. The engine was not used in any other vehicle.
oh there was four valves per cylinder

I would either build up the LT1 because I have two of them and just one car. No need to waste money, and with enough money you can pretty much make anything as fast as your heart desires!
I wouldn't want an LT5 either, Trying to find anything after market for them or replacement parts would probably be a pain in the ***. Its a nice motor but I wouldn't want one.

I mean if money is no option you could do the 4v ltx heads or a lt5 or forced ls7... But if your on a little it of a budget like me I will be doing a ls2 with ls7 style heads and cam and have easy 500rwhp... However I loved my 383 lt1 torque was 350rwtq at 2600 rpms and stayed 390 from 3400- 5250
