Default LS1 vrs. LT1

Aight, so im selling my stang to pick up a 350 (camaro or trans am dont really care)

Situation is, im on a BUDGET. Looking to spend some where around $5-8,000.

Kinda hard to pick up a ls1 for that price. So here's my question, how much better is the LS1 then the LT1???

Number wise its only like 50 h/p right? Hell, $1,000 in mods can net you 50 HP.

Does the LS1 have alot more potential then the LT though? Do yall think I should just save up for the LS1 instead? I'm 18 and don't have alot of $ to spend so tell me what yall think.

this topic has been beaten to death, and hopefully it wont start a war. both cars are great in there own ways. if i could do it all over again, i would probably do an ls1 just because the market is there for them, and they are an awsome motor. buy what you like, and what is in your budget.

Yeaa, well how about this.

How many (and what) mods would it take to beat the 05+ GTs?

LS1 > LT1 > any mustang (not cobra)......... all being stock

LS1 with a big cam (10 sec car) > cobra
LT1 heads/cam > cobra (stock)

I could get into a million combinations

new ZO6 on a sticky tire > anything stock out there (and alot of modded cars)

Yea, you just missed the thread that had a few pages that got locked.

I like the sound of my LT1 since it's still 'old school' 350.

LS1, LT1, LT4, LT5, LS2, LS6, LS7. It doesn't matter. If you are going to dump money into the car, go with what makes you happy from looks then. At the end of the day you basically are going to spend about the same, and MAKE the same power. Want to leave it stock? Well an LS1 is going to best the LT1 by a little, but that's expected from a newer generation of motor, otherwise they wouldn't produce it if it was worse

ok, is the ls1 ALO more reliable then the lt?

I can find some nice lt1s with like 80,000 miles on them for around $5,000. I don't want to be spend $3,000 on repairs (like this damn mustang).

both the LS1 and the LT1 are reliable, come on now they are made by the king, GM lol

like said above the LS1 responds better to mods and all else being equal will produce more power than the LT1

why you ask, the same reason the LT1 is better than the TPI 350s, newer technology

But like you said, how fast you want to go is a function of how much time and money and skill you can throw at your car.

I wonder how long this thread will last before its locked by the mods

If i did it over again i'd find a 02 M6 Z28. Lid, Headers, exhaust, tune 360+ at the tires with a 10 bolt. And the bolt on's could just keep on going. all that plus a 100 wet kit and you've got a 11.7 car with 26+ on the highway.

A bolt-on LT1 will run with a stock LS1, a cam only LT1 will run with a bolton LS1, A h/c LT1 will run with a cam only LS1, a H/C LS1 will walk a H/C LT1.

There its that simple. Stock bottom end LS1's are making 500rwhp these days.

What is your long term goal if you don't feel like tearing into the engine just get ls1 and do bolt ons if you do want to tear the engine down then both are fine it all depends on how you build it and how well you match the parts together then. And both cars treated good can last way past 100K

Taking the car to college, i just want a car wiht a good kick in the pants, and that can beat most cars on the road. Hell a 13 second car will beat 99% of the cars out there on a daily basis.

It won't ever see the track.
