Default Taking some weight out of EPPs LT1 project car

After going as fast as we could with the stock engine w/procharger, time to shed some weight. (We did have new valve springs and rocker arms, intake has never been off)

Interesting...weighed the car before I took it apart. This thing weighs 3456 with out gas in it. I wished we would have weighed it before the 12 bolt, T400, and the procharger! That is 3456 with all the BS accessories...4 floor mats and all. The only lightening parts are BMR K-member and A-arms.

Weighed the old front brakes, had the powerstop rotors. The complete set up per side was 39lbs. The new strange are 18lbs per side. Saving 21 lbs per side and that is not including what I am cutting off the spindle. God this is fun.

Stay tuned for more weight shed facts.

Jon

We are going to first see how far we can get the ET down with stock engine. In the fall I plan on throwing a cam and maybe heads on it. Next year will be the stroker, it will need a new bottom end by then anyway..lol.

That's interesting. I bought my Z with a Baer brake setup. I wonder if it's as light as the Strange? (I am not taking mine off to weigh.)

The Baer's will be heavier. They are more of a street/road race setup, whereas the Strange is a lightweight drag setup.

I was definitely thinking road race but surely they're lighter than the stock setup. Just kinda curious to see if anyone had any experiences with the Baers.

Default Back on it!

Finally getting back on the car, sorry for the delay. Lost temporary interest when I got deployed to Iraq.

Replaced stock balancer with an ATI balancer(PN 917270), they recommended the steel shell for supercharged applications. This added 1.8 lbs.

Replaced the K-Member with a new one from BMR that is set up for a manual rack, this added 1.72 lbs. I think I'm going the wrong way here.

Now for the good stuff.
Power steering system w/fluid- 32.3 lbs.
New flaming river manual rack set up- 15.73 lbs.
lost 16.57 lbs. going with manual steering

A/C compressor- 15.37 lbs.
A/C bracket and idler pulley- 8.00 lbs.
Accumulator and lines- 4.3 lbs.
Condensor- 8.21 lbs.
Washer bottle- 1.69 lbs. -8.23 lbs. when full (It was full when in car)
Crash bar- 16.53 lbs.
Front foam support w/clips- 3.28 lbs.
ABS unit- 12.44 lbs.

Total lost so far 89.41 lbs.

This does not include the brakes. I will get total weight savings from brakes once I cut the spindles.

I did install a Meziere water pump but did not get the weight. I went with the heavy duty pump, if anyone has the weight of this unit please post up. I can weigh the cover and impeller that was removed.

Next I will be removing the cruise control and power brake booster. Replacing rear brakes with Wilwood race brakes and swapping the posi unit with an aluminum spool from Moser.

Hopefully we will pick up some horsepower with the electric water pump and by getting rid of the A/C and power steering. The spool will also help. She will go back on the dyno when done.

Jon

Thanks, yeah it's sad we have to put a cage in it! I want to run it once before the cage goes in.

The new brakes have an aluminum caliper mounting bracket that bolts to where the hub mounts. There is no longer a need for the two big pieces that the caliper use to bolt to. In fact, you have to cut them off for the new set up to fit. I'll post before and after pics this weekend.
