I've used mine (bad idea) car ran great for about a month, and then all of a sudden it had a slight tranny problem and started running hella rich, fixed the tranny, replased some sensors and changed the plugs (agian) and it ran fine for about a week and started acting up agian....went to adjust my speedo using my hypercrap and left the Hypertune off and just used it for the Speedo fix and speedlimiter revomal..and boom, car now runs back where it's supposed to and tranny is shifting as it should.....if you do get one, I wouldn't put that hyper tune on it.......just my opinion....know a few people that there car did the same thing..(this was all with just bolt ons, No cam, no Nitrious)

These threads all pretty much end up the same way. I own two hypertech handhelds because they can be bought used and unlocked from the former vehicle for a fraction of the original price. For me, the one for my LT1 has performed well. It fixed my tire size error on my speedometer and I'm able to fiddle with shift points and move the rpm limiter out of the way so my Mallory hyfire can spark cut the rpm limit over the factory fuel cutting method.

As for the power tune; keep in mind you are applying a blind power enrichment setting that assumes premium fuel, a good running engine with no power adders already in place. A cam or headers will alter the air/fuel requirements enough to throw the blind tune from the hypertech into the wrong settings for that engine's different requirements.

People with bad experiences are those who fit the description above or simply have a problem with their car that may not be obvious to them. If your engine has a good deal of carbon build up you will have detonation and the hyper-tune will not work. If injectors or ignition are not operating at near perfect order you will find the hypertech has no advantage. One fella blames the HPP for ruining his PCM but his problem was a failing electrical system that caused a power outage during the time the new program was being uploaded.

If you have any issues at all with your engine or exhaust then the hand held can't adjust for that. If you added performance parts that make a significant different then the HPP will not be able to detect or adjust for these changes.

My experience with an $80 hpp was exceptional. Since I have the 160 degree thermostat the engine performance was noticeable. Adding the powertune with the 180 degree thermostat will add no power as the tune makes very conservative changes to timing and fuel to avoid detonation. All things being equal, the powertune works for some and not for others because the computer will compensate the moment it sees detonation or power lost to a fuel rich condition. Hypertech tested and developed the powertune parameters on a controlled base of cars, all running well with a 160 degree thermostat installed. Any departure from the cars they tested have given different results. The most important thing about the Hypertech is to thoroughly read the warnings on their website before investing. I have read a few success stories with the HPP but my message is too long as it is.

+1 for hypertech and me.i had 94 trans am w/ full bolt ons hypertech stacked with jet programmer stage 2.i loved it .got chance to race a 2001 mustang w/ some bolt ons and 75 zex kit.that i found out about later and i still waxed his cheaten ***!the car dynoed 300 rwhp and air fuel was rich 11.5 to 1.i would not have won that race without the hypertech.

I would stay away. The general consensus is that they are overpriced and not worth it. They've worked for some people but even if you can get them to work I don't see what the benefit is when you can get a much better tune for the same price or cheaper. Check out madz28.com or pcmforless.com

all ive heard is they are ok for changing gear ratio's and tire size and shift points for a4, performance wise they are not better than a dynotune.
