Default 9.48@75 to 8.73@80

Picked up a 96 Formula for my son a couple weeks ago. Its an A4 with 2:73 gears. Has a homemade cold air, underdrive pulley, cut out, and I done the free mods. We took it to the track the same week we got it. Ran a best of 9.48@75 mph. I'm thinking damn this things a turd. Well, the car had some issues. I replaced the fuel pump with the Walbro 255($115), the fuel psi regulater because the vacuum line was full of gas($75), and found a low mileage used opti for $60.

Took it back to the track and ran a best of (2.14)9.07@80.17

Picked up a used Vig 2800 stall, installed it and went back to the track Saturday. Ran a best of (1.93)8.73@80.03.

Nice, get rid of those 2.73s! Car would wake up with some 3.73s and a set of Long Tubes.

No unexplanable tick in this new car huh. Well, thats cool that so little made such a big difference. Oh a side note figured out the car has 3.23 gears not the supposed to be 2.73 gear, but the speedo is tuned for 3.73 gears.

I knew something was screwy with that speedo. Atleast you got that part of it figured out.

It looks a little different. But I figured the balancing was the same. It looks like the balancer my 94 had on it.

Dont worry about what it runs, just take it out there and have some fun. You'll find that most 6 speed cars out there are not able to run what they would like to.

I have a 3:42 rearend in the garage. It came from a six cylinder car and I'm not sure how strong they are. I might try it anyway.

something is holding it back. Car should be running much faster than that, well not much, but still, it should be quicker. What Elevation and Density Altitudes are you running at??

8.70s and 1.9 60s with a converter, even a 2800, is a little slow.

I ran 8.66 @ 82 MPH w/ a 2.01 60'; stock converter, and mods listed below @ 3200 ft. Elevation w/ 3305 DA.

Either way, its really cool that you did this for your son. I have been trying to get my old man into an LT1 car, or hell any drag car, for that matter, but he is content just being a spectator.

Well, hope you and your boy have fun racing together. Throw some spray on the LT1 for him

The car is running all right for where its at. Ther are a few things holding it back. Like the original plug wires and cats with 168k miles on them. And most of all, the 2:73 gears. I was puuling high 1.9's out of my stock converter with 2:73's back in the day. But that was in -DA weather and a car that had 50k miles on it.

This car still has alot of the original equipment on it @168k miles, like shocks and struts, stock LCA's with original bushings ,etc.

I was only kidding,I knew the answer before I asked. How old is your son?My daughter just turned 18 on may 15th.She loves to race but it scares me even though she's only running 8.90's 1/8th and 13.80's 1/4.She does pretty good on the tree.We ran down at the motorplex at the Pinks all out event and she loved it.I didnt because she beat me in my TA. They are both pretty much stock.
There is a small picture of you in the July/August 2005 issue of GMHightech winning the street stock class at the 2004 Thunder Racings Southern Shootout.Thats some very impressive numbers from a stock block car.I havent seen the car out in awhile. Are you still playing with it?

My son is also 18. I didnt know about the picture for winning the Thunder shootout, I'll have to order a back copy.

I need to replace the lifters in my car. Been spending too much $ on my son lately to work on my car. Not only on his car, he is also graduating this month.

Its a small black and white picture but its still in the mag, which alot of us will never see our picture in any mag.I know what you mean about graduation. My daughter is also graduating from Boles this Friday, seems like I was just crying yesterday watching her go to kindergarden.Time really has flown by.Anyway congrads to you and your son, these next few years can really shape the rest of their lives.

Yea the speedo is figured out, but have replaced the IAC, a/c compressor is on it's way to locking up and tonight the Opti layed down on top of the passenger side window motor that is quitting. Oh yea also am having a problem with oil spitting out of the dipstick. And after more looking it looks like the core support was hit damn hard and is bent to hell, so lotsa trouble trying to get the front end to line up.
