I don't think I broke in the hotcam enough when I first installed it. Now my oil pressure drops to zero when it idles after being hot. when I am cruising it is steady at 20 but goes no higher. I can smell something burning, and I found metal in my oil filter. Could this be a cam bearing and if it is, what else may I have messed up and what should I do? Try to repair or buy a new block..also did I roach my cam? I haven't took it apart yet, I am just wondering what to expect.

there is not a whole lot of metal, but it is noticeable....the oil looked grayish,,,and you could see tiny tiny flakes on the oil pan as poured it out...there is no knocking or tapping sounds

you really only have to worry about breaking a cam and lifters in is if you are using flat tappet lifters in which case on first start up you run it up to 1800-2000 rpm for about 20 minutes to make sure you get oil splash on the lifters and cam for lube as well as getting the lifters to rotate.
being as how you dont really hear any knocking of any kind i would bet on you spinning a cam bearing, probably from not keeping things clean enough when you installed the cam or you severely nicked a cam bearing when installing it

^^^yea
until you get in there and find out the cause of the metal shavings you wont know what is your best bet for rebuilding. I would just start taking it apart and see if there is particles in the oil pickup screen (like gasket material or other crap)
ohhh and welcome to the blown motor club

what color are the flakes? Brass? I used assembly lube when I did my cam install. Maybe not neccessary, but made me feel better. After that I did an oil change since I needed one anyway.
