Default Just intsalled New headers, can't get them to seal

Hey guys, I just finished doing a butt load of work to my car. I installed a New MSD Pro Billet Opti, Wheel Bearing, Guage Temp sensor, and of coarse a set of off road Pacesetter Headers and ORY. I used copper gaskits for the headers and tightend them as best I could using just wrenches. It is so hard to get to some of the bolts too, so I am not to sure if they need to be tightened more or not. The headers leak on both sides, and both the middle two cylinders. What do you guys think I need to do? I have tried to wrench down on them as best I could, I don't kno if I can give it more or not... I'm going to try anyways

When I did mine I used a half length wrench (not socket wrench) with the swivel built into it...really cool wrenches. Before that though I tried a long wrench and could only get them so far and just left them....it sounded like crap! I dyno'd it like that and came up with 362.....few weeks later took some time got the small wrenches and tightened them up good- now it sounds great and dyno'd at 382! I have the same headers w/ the copper colored gaskets as well. Good luck.

If after you tighten them you still can't get them to seal...I would imagine the header surface or the heads aren't completely flat.

had a similar issue with mine, junk the copper header gaskets, copper is great for head gaskets but can be a nightmare for header gaskets, just get a set of mr. gasket ultraseals, the fel pro equivelant the like

Get some Pery's gaskets they are thick and might help with your problem.

Percy's dead soft gaskets and 1" stage 8 locking bolts.
I've reused the bolts and gaskets a few times now and they still seal perfectly.

ive always ran two felpro's held together with some rtv and havent had a problem. if that doesnt work then the headers are warped or the head is messed up.

Sorry I have been out for a few days...
They sound like leaky manifolds. Only now I have headers. I hope that there isn't anything wrong with the damn things, they were a pain in the *** to put in for me. I would have to say the job was harder than installing a cam into an LS1! But they leak, more so I think on the driver side then the passenger side. If you put you hand close to it you can feel exhaust blowing out of them.

Well if I cannot get them to seal up then I will be trying new gaskets, and if those aren't messed up then then I will look to the headers or heads. Then I will have an excuse to buy LE2 heads and cam!

Thanks for all your help with this guys I will be trying a few more things, like a new wrench to throw on them before I take drastic measures

I used the stocker MLS gaskets on my pacesetter headers and havent had a leak yet . YOu might wanna try them . YOu have to drill out two holes on the gaskets to get them to work , but thats easy .

I don't know if its the gaskits or not now. I tightend the bolts the best I could and it didn't get that much better. Sounds like an old ford truck when you give it gas because of the damn leaks. This is really pissing me off now. I guess I need to try new gaskits then. Hopefully that will fix the problem, otherwise I got the shaft and bought a bad set of pacesetters

regular exhaust gaskets, Allen head exhuast bolt to get around the headers and you should be golden. I also had to cut with a portaband in the middle of my header flange on the driver side to get it to seal but she is all good. hope this helps
