Default Will this exhaust sound nasty?

I want to run Pacesetter LongTubes into a y-pipe and into the factory exhaust with a flowmaster.

My set up right now is that but with factory ported manifolds and the tone is really nice, never too loud and has a good moderate volume. Seems loudest at Idle really...

I would like to run this set-up daily but install a cutout right after the y-pipe. How would this sound?

Its on a LT1 383 with oversized valves with 568 int 572 exh and a 260 or 280? duration I believe, its been 4 years since I ordered the cam...

But anyways will the cutout sound good or bad? And will I gain any HP with the cutout over the flowmaster?

Oh and would upgrading to Longtubes really help since I would be dumping it right afterwards? HP or Soundwise?

While flowies might sound good to a certain few (I liked it on my TPI, but that was just the muffler on stock exhaust minus cats), it's general knowledge that the flowie for our cars just doesn't cut it in the performance department. You'd be better off with a Magnaflow or Loudmouth.

IT sounds good, and I know it doesn't flow as well. Thats why I'm putting a cutout...

Good idea. A mix between a good flowing exhaust setup, and a good sounding, while somewhat quiet muffler. Its what i would do if i didn't get this magnaflow catback for free.

i like the lts into a ypipe with a cutout after...

it will definetely sound mean...

if your feeling adventurous just get a couple bullets and put them on after the headers.

Here this is stock manifolds into a cutout. Closed then open. The catback is stock. It gives you an idea of what a cutout will sound like. with long tubes the sound will be louder and meaner.

yes and yes.

manifolds (stock or not) are entirely too restrictive for a 383.

and cutout vs flowmaster? that's not even a contest.

yeah headers should be top priority even on a 350 if you gotta cam and you dont have full exhaust aka (headers ory catback or headers and td) then you are chocking the cam big time and losing a lot of power

I have a cutout in place of my cat on my 94z and it sounds alright but if i drive it for awhile open i get a head ake cause its really freaken loud i definitly think it would sound better if i had a bigger cam. and just some advice get the cutout welded in cus i used 360 clamps and they leak pretty bad

you heard how my car sounded when we patched the exhaust, thats just a stock manifold stock exhuast with no cats and a cutout, and it was crazy loud and sounded good going down the road im putting the cap back on the exhuast tomorrow cause i want to quiet it down

anyway LT's into a Y-pipe then a cutout will sound great on your car, and when you dont want to be obnoxious loud you can close the cutout and have a decent sounding exhuast
