Default Tach install?? I need help

Hey everyone I've had my Autogauge by autometer monster tach and shift lite in my car for half a year now i feel it is time to wire the bitch up... red, green, white, and black wire. where do they go i can't find my directions, plus i'm not all that electronically savy. Pics of how to do it and tips would be awesome. Thanks in advance

ps anyone wanna take a stab at letting me know if they think i'm in the 12's based on the mods in my sig, (my tune is extremely conservative) and i know this should be a seperate thread but i'm lazy

Uh, use the one in the gauge cluster? I leave those for the ricers. Everyone says the factory ones are off, but mines dead on till at least 4500. I didn't feel like looking at 4 things (Road, traffic, scanner, tack).

Plus, they look retarded due to their size.

Goto their website, they'll have a online manual. With that said, the coil (as least the older ones) have a yellowish wire that the tach reads off. If you really are having a beast of a car to merit that huge tach, you'll be running an MSN box, in which case it has it's own tach-out hook up.

Sorry to be an ***. Just get a shift light.

Lol no offense dude, but compared to your car as described in your sig, my car is a f--king monster! I mean come on you have Coolant bypass mentioned as a mod! You could fire back and say "well Dan, you have descreened maf listed" and to this I would say yeah but that only because my tuner recommened I port everything and remove all restrictions, for an optimal tune. And believe me I know my factory tach is off, when I scanned the car, I took notice of all vitals, and the fact. tach is about 300 rpms off (no big deal right?) yeah tell that to a drag racer, and they'll tell you thats HUGE.

Same as you, not trying to be an ***, I was just looking for facts and help not personal opinions. Good luck with your formula!

Anyone else??

not sure on the gauges, but there's no reason you shouldn't be in the 12s if you have a tire.

Don't have a prob with it But I see most of those people running them on street cars that barely see the track, if ever. How often Dan's does, I'm not sure, nor am I concerned. I just assume, because by the sig, it doesn't sound like a track car at all.

And of course I have TB Bypass mentioned, it's a dynoed 6hp. As far as a monster? Naw. You have a small cam in it and headers. It's also been tested that the MSD coil produces less voltage in the higher RPM, so you're only hurting yourself there.

Here, I did all the work for you even.

(I have a feeling this is the one you want http://www.autometer.com/download_instruction/407j.pdf)

Pic your model and read the PDF. If you don't have Adobe Acrobat Reader, then here ya are.

if none of that info helps I have a 2 5/8 tach in my Caprice. I can snap some pics of the wire connector at the coil so you can see where to hook it up. But, I think you will be fine.

Formula350 thanks for the links,
Didn't mean to lash out at ya, i just get pissed when people write off cars with headers, and cam, that were owner installed. Most will tell you, as i'm sure you'll find out for yourself that installing headers, and a cam with the engine still in the bay is no easy task. But the results are well worth it, as for the hotcam, yes it is not an aggressive cam, i didn't realize I hadn't updated my sig, a few months ago I changed over to a grind Gm 847 (this is a beef cake cam) i'll update my sig

Am I the only one that doesn't know any one running a "MSN" box?

Hmm I can't remember but I think even with the MSD box I still wired mine to the coil, probably cause the tach was installed a long time before I got the 6a.

Eh I think a big tach is all in preference. I've had one in all of my vehicles, the first being a v6 86 Camaro. Even if I don't see the track too often, I really just like the thing. Granted you could just get away with a shift light, but my stock tach is also off by 300rpms, throughout most of the rpm range. I def. couldn't get away without a shift light, that probably keeps me out of trouble a lot.
