not to mention the DA on his runs were -1000+

if you really want your fuel to atomise better heat it up before it goes into the motor...

you got the da right..but trust me i stated the raceweight real close if not dead on. The car is sitting in my shop so I know the car pretty well.

EDIT..I went back and found his post. Your right..I was wrong. He was at 3503

1st run of the night was a 12.06 @ 110.68 with a 1.59 60'... spun.
2nd run= a 12.005 @ 110.72 on a 1.56 60'... dropped .5Lb air each tire
3rd run= a 11.97 @ 110.86 on a 1.55 60'... dropped another .5 Lb air and softened the pass side shock
These three runs were all within a 15 minute period with an air temp of 43*. After the 3rd run I was booted for no cage.
Luckily Frank95Z pulled some strings and was able to get me one more "unofficial" NT run then shut it down for the night.
For this run I pulled the belt off to see if it would do much... I was surprised by the MPH gain. Also the air was down to 37* at this point and the track was cooling, so I dropped 1 more Lb out of each tire... 18psi each.
4th run= 11.94 @ 111.50 on a 1.53 60'.
The normal set up for this car is a set of BFG DR's with skinnies up front and full exhaust, this has been good for 12.07 @ 110.15
Last night I was on ET Drags (my BFGs are showing steel belt) and had the cut out open.
With the 11 lb per tire weight savings over my BFGs I was at a race weight of 3503 last night. Still on pump gas.
Needless to say I'm VERY happy!!!
Thanks again Frank!!!
Steve...

how can a TA weigh so much more than a Z28?
I know he had a tubular K-member even back is '02
that's just crazy
but if he said it was 3500 I believe him (seemed like a nice guy when I met him in NJ)

Nice job. Way to go! Good luck and keep on trying. As soon as it cools down, you'll see 11s for sure. You've got the mph now, so keep on trying. What's left on mods?

It still had full leather interior, and even A/C I believe when he went 11s. And the TA is the heaviest of the f-bodys in stock form. That wing weights a ton..lol. I think he put that k-member in..or should I say we put it in..right before his trip up north. I think that may have been after his 11 sec. run. One thing about steve he is always very upfront on what was/is done to his cars so you can bet that is what it weighted. I honestly don't know how you guys get so light. My formula was 3350 when I went 10.3s. I hope to be down to the 3150 ish range this time out but I have taken EVERYTHING out of the car. Maybe the camaro is just that much lighter.

Thanks...

95 Formula - I was around back when Steve first got there, and have followed a lot of the faster bolt-on guys, and even traded PM's and emails with them. Steve had a damn quick car for the weight, but he also had more into his combo them I do. I found it cheeper to go with weight reduction (bolt-off's) then spending money I don't have on bolt-ons. And yes it was a huge accomplishment when he first hit 11's because everyone at the time thought that it was impossible, myself included. Oh and thanks for offering me the luck, I should be able to get there without it, but luck never hurts...

Thanks, and that is the plan to try when the weather gets better..

As far as what's left, I still have a lot of things to do to help but no money. The cool thing is I got to where I am on almost no budget, doing things slowly, and cheeply, and that includes things like making my own parts and doing my own tuning...

Parts/power mods still left to do are:
- suspension
- gears
- TB
- dynotune
- and probably a few more...

As far as weight goes I still have a few little things I can still remove in the future like:
- door bars
- washer tank/pump
- hood and hatch shocks
- center console
- horns, or at least one of them
- underhood wiring for items no longer in use (the first list)

Plus the things that I need money for:
- front suspension (K-member, A-arms, and etc.)
- lightweight brakes, front and rear
- ABS delete kit
- Fibreglass hood
- manual rack
- manual brakes
- aftermarket coolant overflow
- lightweight seat

After and if I ever get to the point all that above is done, I will start cutting:
- Frame horns
- interior brackets (mounts for rear seats, seatbelts, and etc.)
- subfenders
- and misc, swiss cheesing

I'm sure there are things I have missed but that is most of it...

You don't want hot fuel! That's motorhead common sense. Cool fuel + atomization = great burn = better vroom vroom!

Is your current mod list accurate? Any recommendations for someone getting started with a bolt on LT1?

this makes me wanna put my stock shortblock back in
I was at the same et as you w/o the 3.73s and weight of around 3350

think I might still be the quickest bolt-on only 3.23 LT1 (12.44)

if I had my way, this whole LTx shootout would happen and we'd all get to see the new bolt-on record set there

now go beg/borrow/steal a vid cam so we can all see it when it does happen

It is accurate in the sense that it has most of it except for the little stuff, I would put it all on there, but I there is a character count limit on sigs...

A full list of mods would go like this:
home depot 4" PVC CAI, descreened and bored MAF by me, 1.6RR's, LT4 valve springs, cups, and retainers, Pacesetter LT's, ORY, dumped bullet muffler, CSR WP, 160* T-stat, t-body bypass, pcmforless base mailorder tune tweeked by me at the track, CPT Race Rebuilt 4L60E, 3500 Vig., 3.73's, Summit rearend cover, Comp. Eng. rear shocks, QA1 front shocks and springs, weld draglites with M/T 275 60 DR's, spohn drag swaybar, PAF CM subframes, Odyssey battery, and a crapload of weight removed...

I think that's the full mod list...

Oh, and I have an airfoil...

Oh yeah, you are progreesing very well. Without all the mods and weight reduction and you're already at the desired mph for 11.70s-80s. I still think it would run 11s if you borrowed someones smaller tires and got the 60' down a bit. Shon was cutting 1.4x 60' when he set the record. Just think what yours would run if that were the case. Keep up the good work and good luck.

Ok I was getting the car ready for my race tomorrow, and decided to change the oil since I honestly don't remember when I last did it, well I was working off the 3000 miles thing but forgot that I don't drive the car on the street anymore... So I decided to try royal purple, it is actually purple oil , and when changing it the old stuff was black, and when I pulled off the oil filter I found that it was the same one in there when I installed the headers last year in May because there are still marks on it from the header install...

I also checked my fuel filter, and it was pretty dirty too, and realize it hasn't been changed in over 4 years...

I guess we'll see what tomorrow holds since I actually did some maintenance on this damn car, I wonder if this would be enough for 11's, I guess only the weather will tell...

with the heat and humidity that we had today and the altitude of the track I was running 12.37 @ 109ish with the current setup so I was down quite a bit from last week, but it was also 15* hotter and so humid that I don't think I stopped sweating all day...

I did try a 26" tire just to see what it would do for me, but the 26"ers were very old (~5+ year) Nitto drag radials , and I couldn't get then to hook. I was able to still run a faster time with them dispite the worse 60', but nothing better then where I was but damn good for the weather today and compaired to my runs with the 28" tires . So, now I just need a better 26" tire to try and see what that does...

Better luck next time. I'm sure the DA was off yesterday. You'll see better times with the shorter tire. I'm glad you decided for that.
