There's really no way to tell for sure. Depends on how well it was taken care of, etc.

I would just build it so you know it will reliable.

If you decide to do it though at least do a compression test first.

well id think by putting a cam in the car that would make it better since you will be taking everything apart and replacing it new gaskets new springs cam bearings seals ...no? idk? haha

I have 154k on mine and I'm running nos though it with a Zex system. No trouble so far, but. I have read that when you go to replace the cam, I'm not sure which LE set-up you are looking at, there can be trouble with the cam bearing in the front, something about it being brass maybe, I can't quite remember. Let us know how it goes.

Well if you did that then yeah, but most people don't replace bearings when doing a cam (unless they are building the whole motor).

ive never done any cams or anything on a lt1 but ive built small blocks for my novas i just figure when you have the cam out you should replace everything you can while its out but i guess in a camaro its alot harder to get to everything

do you have to pull the motor out of the car to put a cam in it?

if your replacing the gaskets and everything else i would. it would make it deffently easier but you probally dont have to. I know in the LSx block you only have to take apart most of the front of the motor.

If you are going through the trouble of putting an LE heads and cam kit in I would freshen up the rest of the motor while I was at it.

I just finished installing my "Hot Cam" on a 158k motor and so far no problems. Going down the road she holds just a tick under 50 psi of oil pres. I just got it back yesterday from having a 3.73 gears and a shift kit put in and am very happy with it. Good luck.

i think im going to do it. because the only other option would be to buy a whole new motor and build that. but that would cost a lot more.

he said cam bearings not rod and main bearings which will be the part that is worn down and go bad...that requires pulling the motor

not true. i just got done rebuilding my motor while it was in the car. not the easiest thing to do but it CAN be done. And when i pulld the heads my cylinders were smooth no ridge. 84k on the clock. it all depends on how well its taken care of. these engines are capable of over 200k if taken care of. GM does build quality engines.

you dont really wear out rod and main bearings... they are friction bearings, there isn't any surface touching.

to the above, its your choice man. i am about to h/c my motor, but i have 4 extra motors at home to build... if i were you, knock it all out at the same time. at least tear down and inspect

Default miles

no never have to any miles to mod unless the car is smoking with so much bypass it seems like you got a fogger on the hood....although if you don't have to use your car everyday just start a short blockrebuild
