I know somone who went from 340 to 375rwhp by uncapping his cutout on the dyno with his flowmaster.

People hate flowmaster 80 series mufflers because they are crossflow mufflers. 1 in 2 out.

The exhaust fights itself trying to find the exit on the opposite side of the inlet.

There are crossflow mufflers that flow alot better than the flowmaster out there.

Ive always seen the trend on here that they restrict, but Ive loved the sound of mine, and dont want something that sounds like crap, but still flows well. I have seen that magnaflow of course has a crossflow muffler, would that be worth the $$$ to explore? Pretty much to the point, I want something that will flow sooo much better that I will feel more of a kick in the pants when I romp on it. So is the flowmaster holding that much back?

Would a 40 series crossflow be a huge difference? Or I could even do a magnaflow 1 in 2 out muffler as well... Whats going to give me more power?

Your car is Purple Pearl Metallic like mine...not grey purple metallic.

As for the muffler thing...flowmaster sounds alright to me. There are alot of different opinions out there and if you want more power but the sound of flowmaster then just throw a cut out on there.

what would cause it to gain that kind of power(35hp)is a good amount to gain, was the said vehicle supercharged,or?
my friend has a YS-trim on his Ls1 8.5 comp.,qtp headers, dual cut outs going into a 3"Y and slp loud mouth with a moroso spiral flo in the I pipe and he put almost 50 hp more to the rear on the dyno with the cutouts open.
thats where i am coming from i may have said it in the wrong way in my previous post..
was the motor stock.cam/heads it had to have something to create that amount of HP,i dont believe that the muffler held that power back. i could be wrong but something does not sound right to me..

On my orginal window sticker I could have sworn it said gray. I dont have the title with me, its in storage. But your car looks pretty much like mine, which is awesome, I havent seen one the same color. I need to get some pics up and get a sig made.

Back on track, Im doing a cutout but want something better when its closed. Would the 40 series suffice?

If it were me i would go with something like a spintech if it was just a direct replacement. As far as cat-backs go...GMMG all the way!

I plan on putting a stocker back on my car with some C6 tips out back. I will still have the looks of nicer tips and the car will be quiet when needed, but when i want to be noticed or i am at the track i can flip a switch and open the cut out.

Thats how mine, but it gets boring with the stock exaust. I like the sound of the stock exhaust but its not loud enough. so I'm just putting a magnaflow on since they are not too loud and sound pretty nice (sisters z has it) and have the cutout for rediculous loud.

my first camaro I had bought a Flowmaster catback loved the sound but didnt get the power i wanted. If you the way flowmaster sounds all you have do is run a single 40 series (3' in, 3' out) muffler and thats it. You will get the flowmaster sound and will flow better. b/c the exhaust gasses arent battling to get out.

I can not find the chart I want too but here is one I plucked from a Mustang site.
Everyone told my my Dynomax catback which is 2.5" with dual ultraflos and resonators, I added an x-pipe, was going to be a restriction at the power level my car is at now, seeing as I gain under .1 from uncorking it I have to think there is something too the many charts I have seen that show the Ultraflo as a very top performing muffler. Another b-body guy I know with a car that runs similar times has to open his exhaust too do so, with the flowmasters hooked up he runs .3 slower, and this is duals, don't know which Flowmasters he has, but do know that everything I have seen relating to their performance means I will never own a Flowmaster.
My car is actually pretty quiet all things considered, that is a lot of pipe and with the resonators and all it is especially at idle just very deep and mellow, really exactly what I want, I don't need noise.

Muffler Flow Comparison Chart
Shown below are competitive mufflers versus DynoMax Ultra-Flo SS and Race Magnum Welded models. For Powertech Index cold-flow testing, the pressure drop across the muffler is held at 20.3" H2O and the flow rate (scfm) is recorded.

i had a 40 series on my iroc back in the day, and with the cam it sounded awsome!. Then i took off the catback and ran the drag series flowmaster (the 1 chamber little one) and it sounded sick! I think that the flows sound the best out of any muffler. How well does the litle race flowmasters flow? All thoes are is a hollow muffler with a baffle in it.
