Default changed opti but car still runs rough from time to time

[B]i recently had my opti replaced along with new plugs and wires. From time to time when i come to a stop it starts idling rough, and when im accelerating or just driving it bogs and seems to be lacking power. Other times it runs awesome i can feel all the power through out the rpms. i need to replace an o2 sensor would this make it run rough? Could this be my fuel filter? Anything else that could make this happen?

Fuel pressure regulator! My car was doing the same thing. I changed the wires 4 times in a row and the opti twice. I took it in and they changed the FPR and now it runs like a damn champion! The tech told me what was happening is the regulator is running too much gas into your cylinders causing them to flood. This is what gives you the lag and power loss. The regulator is fairly in-expensive also. I think it cost like 44 bucks or something. Hope that helps and good luck!

oh wow actually this is exactly what i'm going through right now as well. So it's the fuel pressure regulator? Should i pick up a stock replacement? Or is there a better aftermarket option?

well just put a fuel pressure gauge on, if that is consistent that that is not your problem. As far as the opti that might be the problem but I doubt it. The 02 is probably your problem, with the o2 bad the computer tries to compensate thus making it run crappy, however the opti would just cause a misfire

OK so lemme get this straight.........The problems associated with the FPR are the same as a dying opti? Which means the fact that at random times my car will start to stall and not keep an idle.....or even die at high speeds and not start back up could simply be a 44$ part with alittle labor versus the 300$ opti witha major headache? My car doesnt lag or surge when its driving its just intermittent and has not gotten any worse.....it just randomly gets pissy......Any help? same thing?

Well I think it's safe to say not all problems are universal to all cars. However, if you've already hit the opti, I think you can safely move to something else. Spark and fuel issues can appear very similar. The regulator is not a big job and it's not expensive. I would at least give it a shot. Replacing mine a while back helped some of my fueling issues as well but they weren't the same symptoms as mentioned in here.

well i changed my o2 sensor and the car runs way better. No more bogging and rough idle. An easy fix for 60 bucks. Im going to replace the other two on the car so this wont happen again. thanks everyone for your help
