Default '96 LT1 Bolt-On Questions

I took my '96 T/A to the tracks this weekend and my best time was a 13.9 with a 2.1 60'. It's a '96 T/A with an A4 and 97,600 miles on the car. The only mods that I have done to the car are a Flowmaster replacement muffler, Flow Tech air intake elbow, and a Moroso CAI. I recently ordered some Pacesetter LT headers, a Jeg's 3" x-pipe, and 3" inlet/outlet Dynomax bullets. What kind of gains will I see after I install the full exhaust? I was also thinking about getting some BBK underdrive pulleys if they are worth it ($80). This is my daily driver so I don't wanna get too carried away with it. Any other suggestions as for bolt-ons? I'm going to start college next semester so I'm on a budget. Have a job right now but it's not all that great (pay wise).

with the LT's and exhaust, i'd say you could get around 13.4..from the looks of your 60ft you could use some better tires. Next id say get cam/stall

Yeah I'm working on it man. Just another 18 yr. old kid tryin' to survive lol. I'm wanting to get a stage 2 4L60E with a 3000 stall or so, but before that I'm gonna go with a cam. Something similar to the LT4 hotcam set-up, but a little bigger. My Dad said since I'm goin' with LT's that I should def. get a cam so my car would sound mean. Just gettin' there slowly...

I would go with the stall before the cam. Otherwise you wont be set up right for the cam, even if its baby cam. The cam will pick up a bit of power, but if your car isnt set up to run it, its useless. stall and gears would be my first route.

I really don't want to go with any other gears besides what I have now which is 3.23 I think, may be wrong. I had 3.73's in my '95 A4 Z28, and I didn't like where the RPM's would sit at while cruising down the highway at 70mph. Not to mention 3.73's are kinda hard to keep from wining. I'm gonna be driving this car daily to college and back, well maybe not every day... But like twice out of the week starting next year.

If you're going to DD this car, I'd stay away from cam's and stalls. Not that they will hurt anything mechanical wise, but it will put a pretty good damper on your gas mileage.
And as far as the undrive pullies go, they work just fine. I think you can see around
4-7 rwhp depending on your setup. Not a bad investment at all.

If its not a DD then why car about gas mileage? Also its a v8, your not going to get 4cyl mileage out of it. If you want to build a faster car your going to lose gas mileage.

I'm getting like 20 mpg right now cruising at 70mph. If I was to go with 3.73s, I would probably get dropped down to like 16mpg. I know 4mpg really aint nothing, but it's my daily driver. I'm more then sure I'll go with 3.73s some time soon, Just not now.

I'm thinkin' about getting me some BFG or Nitto drag radials. Would these help bring down my 60'? I need to bring it down some how, right now it's standing at a 2.1, don't know if that is alright or not but I wanna bring it down somehow. Just tryin' to bring my 1/4 mile et down.

First off who buys a sports car to save gas mileage , I daily drove my LT4 ported heads and Cammed its got .560 lift no problems. I guess it depends how far you drive it and traffic. I love my LT4 hotcam it runs strong. Remember people think if they get a bigger cam they will make more power but its all about combo. I would get a 3200 stall and some DR's. Nittos suck as far as traction but they last long. I have got a pair on my forged rims I have for sale.

I know what you mean man. My Dad has a corvette and he's all sad cause gas prices. He's been talking about taking the cam and heads off his car. I don't care too much about gas mileage now, but I will when I had to drive my car 140 mile trip back and forth to college about twice a week. How much you want for those forged rims with tires?

I'm thinkin' if you decide to go with the true dual set up, go with an x-pipe and have the exhaust dumped unless you want to run it out the back. Forget the cats, unless you want to gut them out. Just go with the long tubes to an x-pipe or h-pipe (whichever you prefer) then have the exhaust dumped after whichever mufflers you choose to run.
