I've buried the speedo at less than 3000 rpms and was still accelerating.
2.73 gears w/ M6. Stock bottom end. Heads, 1.6 rockers, headers, Bilstein racing coilovers etc. It was "scary fast".

Ive had my 95 a4 ta with bolt ons to 145. It still had more left in it but I let out for fear of a deer running out in front of me. My brother was with me in the car and he had his eyes closed because it scared him so bad!

What I have been wondering is if there is a governor or not. When that shift light goes off in 5th and I put it in 6th, the tach needle just sticks around 4200 or so, and doesn't move one way or the other. So did GM cut us off around 155ish???

I've heard the whole thing where we don't have enough power to pull 6th, but yet the car doesn't slow down either, so doesn't that debunk that theory??

That is called harmonic vibration. There are waves of vibration travelling up and down the shaft, at differing frequencies. When a large number of these varying frequency waves all combine together, they form a much larger wave, which can be felt inside the car. After you pass that speed range where they all combine and they break into their separate components again, the vibration appears to go away.

No, you have actually just proven that you really can't accelerate any faster in 6th gear. There is no governor if you have the high speed tires from the factory or change the PCM for the fastest speed rating tires. Back in 97, Lingenfelter pulled 190 in a 383 N/A LT-1, beating all the competition, including turbos and superchargers.

Back when I was a stupid teenager I hit I beleive around 144 or so in my 94 Z28 A4 3.23 car that was basically stock except for a muffler..

My 99 T/A I only took to maybe 130 one time, and that was plenty fast enough

And my 96 Z28 I have now I have taken prob. only to about 125. I just feel no need to ever go any faster than that..it doesn't prove anything, just that I am brave enough to risk my life..and to me it's not worth it. 0-103mph in the quarter mile is WAY more fun

Few replies ago people didn't believe that someone hit over 160. I've had my stock corvette at 165. Its pretty insane how low the rpm's were. 50mph at 1000, 90 at 2000, 128ish at 3000, don't know if I ever hit 4g, but it just couldn't pull anymore, as for the camaro i've had it at 150 and was still climbing slowly but surely..

GM says that the LT1 cars top out (stock) at 154 MPH. I am sure just as some motors are a little stronger than others from the factory that some might go a little faster or slower than others.

Here's my car vs a Mustang. At the end I decided to keep going even though the race was clearly over. When I did let off the gas and looked up I saw 178 on my heads up display! With the windows down it was loud! Obviously I am not stock though
