top speed?
Its an aftermarket HUD (heads up display). I got if from LPE years ago, but just finally installed it over the summer. I got it specifically to know what speed I was going after the factory speedo was buried.
I have never been over 100mph in my 95. I decided I was going to the other night and I was instantly reminded that I had forgot to latch my drivers side t top. I drove all day like that then on the highway at 85ish it started to come off. I grabbed it and held it down lol.
Anyways I doubt a stockish lt1 will do over 150. Regardless of what the speedo may say. They are not exactly right.
I have no idea why but I never try to top cars out. I have topped out my 2007 gsxr600. Speedo said 178 but I was probably doing 160ish.
For a 600 its pretty quick. From personal experience I know it will do 0-100 in 7.3 seconds. Which happens to take exactly 1/8 mile lol.

I raced a stock GTO with bolt ons in my '95 when I had the stock 10 Bolt in it w/ 3.23's I did an A4-M6 swap my speedo is WAAAAY off. He said I was still pulling like crazy when he hit 150. I still had some of 5th left but not a whole lot. However my car is nowhere near stock. I would imagine that a stock car would run out of power before gear. 
i managed to get up to 135 in 4th plenty left on this hot summer day going to laughlin.before the pic i got a call stating there were 3 troopers 4 miles up heading my way so i snapped my pic and resumed normal speed 
my fastest was on gps after the speedo was maxed,165 just went into 6th gear and the car unlike most was still accelerating,that was plenty enough for me,that part of the fwy is very long and there were no other cars in sight 4:30 am NO NEED TO REPEAT this run,ever again.it was a RUSH

one night me and a buddy(in a honda) were racing i was running around 110 when he backed off i thought i'd look cool and hold it to the floor i saw headlights go around him in the rearview and my friend chad said "hey someone else wants to race" last i looked my speedo said around 140 the car crawled up my *** and i almost vomited when the blue lights poped on. he clocked me at 137 i got a ticket for 100 in a 65. the cop said he was lettin me off easy cause in alabama 45 over is felony speeding. i dont know what motors are in the cop cars around here it was an impala but he caught me easy and i was giving it all i had in my 97 z28.

Recently went 175 a few weeks ago.... I ran at a land speed event this last month called the Texas Mile, and went 175MPH in my emissions legal LT-1 Camaro on street Z-rated tires, through the cats, 3.73 rear gears. That was in 5th gear. I only tried once in 6th, and I could only get to 155.
I don't really know what the top speed is of an LT-1, but I know that it's probably faster than I went.
I'm actually shooting for over 180 at the next event.

i guess mine is differant because it is a conv. Check out the vid in my sig, as soon as it hits 155, the motor felt like it just quit so i let off, also look at the rpms, they dont look like it could go much further/faster.

Top-ending seems to be a craze lately. There's several vids on the web with guys taking their cars up to 160+mph. The latest is a Lambo doing 219. Exhilarating, but deadly and not smart.
Shoot, I recently had mine up to 178 with plenty left when I was running my buddies notchback in this vid.
