You think that cam would pass CA emissions with a tune?

I was actually looking into going with this cam as well...Id like to hear some more people chime in that have this cam...My car has stock heads and is pretty much full bolt ons, and was curious to see the drivability with this cam, and dyno numbers.

Looks like your talking about the 280 XFI I had it in my car for a little while about 2000 miles or so. It idled nicely and had some power, however, I pulled it and went for a custom cam of about the same duration with a tighter LSA and a lot more lift and never looked back.

For a stock engine it is probably a little too big and you'd be better served by something in the CC305 - 503 range. I know that your stock valve train won't like the lobes.

No, the cc503 224/230 is hard enough to get to pass

Ya with a 1.6 rocker thats almost a .615 intake lift. Would you have to upgrade anything other than the valve springs?

theres got to be more than just one or two people using this cam.

I thought so... I was thinking about the 503, but would the xfi 218/224 be better because it has more lift?

I would not use this cam with out porting your stock heads, bottom line!!! Your not going to use the cam to it's full potential with out increasing head flow.

The advertised lift is with 1.6s. I used the 280 XFI in my DD for a couple of thousand miles and went to a custom cam with a lot more lift and a tighter LSA.

It idled well, but I had AI 190s then. For stock heads I'd look in the cc 503/305 range. Bigger is not always better.

I've had this cam for about 1000 miles. I'm happy with it so far, good idle, great driveabilty. The Summit web site is a little misleading but when you click on the cam read the info at the bottom of the page and it says specs are with 1.6 RR's. My cam card says .576IN/.571EX, 230IN/236EX @ .050, 113 LSA. My car has ported stock heads and intake 52mm TB and made 371 rwhp and 351 rwtq. I may make more power with a custom cam, but now I trying to get my 10 bolt replaced! As for emissions test's I have no idea we don't have them in Missouri,,,yet!

I know they're ported but I'm not sure if they were polished, I think so. Here are the flow #'s from the local shop who did the head work. I kept the stock valves and used Comp 918 springs.

Lift - IN - EX
100-61-51
150-93-74
200-120-100
250-150-117
300-178-128
350-182-150
400-218-159
450-233-168
500-245-178
550-255-181
600-264-185

The shop who did the work said the numbers in the 250 to 450 range are what matter. Most heads are advertised at max flow but you're valve is only open at that height for a very short time. Because of this aftermarket heads sometimes look better than they really are, especally considering good porting is around $700.00. However I'm sure if you had the money you could port aftermarket heads and get some serious #'s from them, I wouldn't know I can't afford it! Hope this helps.

Are you kidding?

Polishing is not something done by intelligent people looking for something in this range of performance. MAYBE really high rpm race stuff, but anyone who does it for the street is doing either as a marketing tool to impress the ignorant or is ignorant themselves.

The XFI stuff is perfect if you want to be another sheeple buying mediocre parts that are "supposed" to be the best. Just make sure you are reallly good at making excuses about why it does not perform so you don't have to admit you made a mistake.

Come on man, the guy has only been driving for five years. You have to learn some time, none of us were born knowing every thing about performance. Why don't you try to educate insted of slam someone for asking a question!
