Default OBD1 code pulling?

alright well i went to auto zone today to get some codes pulled thinking they could get them from an obd1 car... they cant here for some reason... so they told me to do the paper clip in the top right two slots deal and count the check engine flashes and all that stuff... well im not wanting to shove a paper clip into a electrical fitting because that doesnt sound too safe on the connector, and i tried with some wire, but for some reason all the light did was flash like 100 times until i pulled it out cuz in the book it shows that there are only like 99 codes or sometin like that... so i was just wondering if there was a tutorial on how to do this because i want a description that is error-less... especially while working with the computer of my car if you know what i mean...

the jumper wire is only used on eprom cars. Since yours is 94 it can be scanned. The people at auto zone just didnt know what they are doing. Go to a normal shop and you can get the codes scanned.

you can only do the paper clip trick with 1993 f-bodies. you either have to buy a obd1 scanner from a parts store or find someone who has one such as a mechanic

A regular mechanic. And most will not charge you out the *** for it for the simple reason that they want your business. If it wasnt such a trip I would just tell you to come to warsaw and I could scan it for you, but thats a hell of a trip to scan the pcm.

well i know the first time i took it to get it fixed... like when i first got the car and it had a bad ac compressor... the guy scanned it and said that one of the o2 sensors were goin bad... so do i really need to get them pulled, or could i just do trial and error until i get the bad one out?

You could just put both O2's in and see if that fixes it. Although that might not be the only code in it.

you will be guessing for ever. it could be anything.

i think you can get a obd1 scanner from autozone for like $100 bucks if not less. i just bought a obd2 scanner for $50 bucks( the cheapest one they had)just check around the local stores and ask if they sell one.

If you get it re scanned, try to write down the code numbers and what they are so we can help out with any other codes that might have come up.
