Question Going From A 52mm Tb To A 58mm Tb

Default Question Going From A 52mm Tb To A 58mm Tb

IF I HAVE A 52MM TB CURRENTLY AND WANTING TO SWITCH TO A 58MM TB WILL I SEE ANY DIFFERENCE IF HAVE A 1997 CAMARO SS WITH P&P HEADS, CC503 AND ALL THE SUPPORTING MODS WILL I SEEN ANY GAIN SWITCHING THIS BEFORE I GET IT TUNED???????

Thanks for the capslock post, how you didn't notice you were typing in caps is beyond me, unless you're one of the sorry lot who still looks at the keyboard while typing...

No you won't see a difference, and if you have an M6, you don't need to tune for it either.

1SIC -- TWO POINTS:

1) KEEP IN MIND THAT THE FACTORY INTAKE MANIFOLD PORTS ARE ONLY LARGE ENOUGH TO SUPPORT 54MM THROTTLE BODIES WITHOUT (MAJOR) ALTERATION. YOU'LL OBVIOUSLY NEED TO PORT THE MANIFOLD TO ACCEPT THE 58MM TB.

2) IN GENERAL, THROTTLE BODIES ARE NOT A HIGH HORSEPOWER MODIFICATION. EVEN IF YOU NEEDED IT, IT WOULD PROBABLY NET YOU ~5HP MAX. CONSIDERING HOW MUCH THEY COST, YOU'D BE BETTER OFF SPENDING THE MONEY ELSEWHERE, IMO.

Ok, that's getting annoying. Anyway, considering you presumably have a stock rotating assembly, and given that there is approximately 1,728 cubic inches per cubic foot, that means that your ~350ci engine is only capable of inhaling about 600cfm at 6000rpm (658cfm @ 6500rpm). Your current throttle body is most likely flowing in the 800-900cfm range, so I'd say you're ok for the time being.

What is your question? My math?

Our engines are 350 cubic inches from factory. Being a 4-stroke engine, it takes two rotations of the crankshaft to equal one engine cycle (one rotation of the camshaft). Again, there are 1728 cubic inches in a cubic foot, so:

CFM = [(350ci * (6000rpm / 2 rotations per cycle)) / (1728ci per cubic foot)] = 608cfm

Same goes for 6500rpm.
