Default Heater Box Removal

What is the weight reduction for removing the heater box?? Where can I get the block off plate If I do decide to remove it??

I removed mine and estimate the weight savings to be approximately 15-20 pounds.

I think Madman Co. makes the block off panel. I can't remember where I purchased mine, but I do know that it was from a company that makes them specifically for our cars.

Sweet. I would really love to keep the heat. Even though I live in Florida it has been in the 20's for this past week. BURRRR!!! Merv, what do I need to keep the heat? I remember reading somewhere that you needed to do something speceific in order to do it.

FYI, the weight savings from the part I mentioned was from the box/radiator itself. You'd have to keep it in there if you wanted to retain heat, hence no significant weight savings.

You have to remove the passenger side of the dash, dont you?

Burkhart Chassis also makes a delete plate.

Cool. I wasn't really looking for all that much weight reduction. I was really looking to clean up the engine bay a bit. Thanks for the info guys. I have materials and I will probably tackle that within the next couple of weeks and post up some pics.

I got rid of my whole box- Merv is the one who guided me through it. - Thanks for the pics man btw!. Also, I gutted my dash out ( i.e. - took out all heating ducts and the pass airbag). The passenger airbag weighs in at probably a good 10/12lbs..So, get rid of the condenser, lines, ac compressor, box, ducts, airbag,- and you lose 40/50lbs!..

But I do miss not having any air flowing in the car for defrost.. I'll fix something up though..

I did it, but on the inside. I removed EVERYTHING. pretty sure you could do it the other way with the engine still in.

yeah thats what I'm thinking PITA. I'm at idle now till more turbo parts show up. decide to jump into it after a couple beers got it all done then ordered the plate from madman. went back out side and was looking at it, I might just have to put it on the inside and keep everything out till I drop the 6.0l in there this spring.
