cc306 cam expectations
i am in the process of building my top end and i am wanting to go with the cc306 cam, or the cc503 along with ported stock heads, new valvetrain. but i was wondering what kind of gas mileage i will get with this setup and a 6-speed and 3:42 gears, highway and mixed. also how daily drivable are these cams. i want the cam that makes the most power but still have street manners,so what kind of rear wheel #s can i expect from this setup, being on a fresh stock bottum end. thanks for the help...

Dont mean to be rude but try a search, cc503 vs cc306 has been driven into the ground.
i have read alot about them but dont have any hands on with them, they are similar, the cc503 might be a little small with your mods, and with the cc306 it pulls at higher rpms, with a new motor and valvetrain it should do fine.
hope this helps a little, there is a about two new cam threads every day so the information is all there

get at least 3.73 gears in the rear for that cam. My car peaks at 6500rpm with the cc306 cam. daily driver should be fine i think. of course it is going to suck more gas but who cares suck it up if u want power.I sure as hell hope you are doing pushrods and all that stuff with the swap.

it is a dailly driver id say i put about 3-5k miles a year. i just want at least 400rwhp same with rwtq. but ive researched those two cams and honestly have not gotten any solid data. i really preffer the cc503 because its not as agressive for DD but im not sure if i can make the power i am wanting with it and i dont have a tune yet. but as soon as its done i will get it tuned. thanks again for the help it very much appreciated...

no it's in the garage for the winter right now. Also this summer my car was misfiring and bucking and kicking and after lots of money and parts i figured out my ecm is no good. So i need a new pcm and i broke hallf of two of the prongs out pulling the chip out of the holder so i need a new chip, chip holder and tune. So i am thinkin a good base tune from MadZ28 and then dyno tune but i need to do more research before i do anything. Also my car with the previous tune was dynod at 415rwhp but u will not make nearly that much torque unless u get a single plane intake i think. Don't quote me on it but i think my car only made in the area of 365rwtq.

If the bottom end is freshly rebuilt and can handle the 6800 spin up that the cc306 likes, then i would deff say go with it. It can make great power, but only if you have the heads to support it. As for a daily driver, im sure with a really good tune it can deff be made into a very streetable car (although gas mileage would be horrible).
Where as with the cc503 is great with the stock heads, and is supposed to really wake up with a decent port job. Has great street manners, i.e. i've been daily driving mine untuned for months now on the stock stall. The gas mileage is decent, but still nothing like stock.
The 3.73's would be great for both these cams, although with an m6 i would go 4.10's especially with the 306. I love my cc503 but with the mods to support it im sure magic can be made with the cc306. Although personally if was going to go that big (306) then i would go custom.

The cc306 is a nice cam that is roughly 16 years old now. There are many cams that can compete with this cam now.
Have a custom cam made,i know the cc306 cut on a 110 instead of a 112 is pretty nice. It seems most people are looking for a cam that makes the car sound like it is fast rather than to purchase the correct cam for their combo just because a bunch of people have used it...key words are (COMBO) and (TUNE)

as far as drivability all these cams are fine as long as you have a tuner or tunning capabilities to maximize their efficientcy!
ADDED.
My friend has an '88 iroc with the cc503,355",6spd and 3.45s fully tuned with a superram and he gets 28 mpg on the frwy.runs mid 12s
