Default Cylinder head ?s

Ok I have been thinking about doing a rebuild on my lt1 for awhile. And I came across a set of dart pro 1 aluminum heads for a pretty good price. My question is will the 230cc intake runners be too big if I just did a 355 build? As the car will not be a daily driver but I want it to still have good throttle response and midrange torque to go along with the top end horsepower. And speaking of power my goals are to have about 425-450 at the wheels.

And my last question is how much does it usually cost to have a set of regular sbc heads converted to reverse cooling? Here is a link to the heads in question:

just depends on how high you want to spin the motor. If you want 450 RWHP, then by all means, get 'em. You'll need 'em. They will DEFINITELY rock when ported and sat on top of a 383ci, but they'll work on a 355ci too.

One company has proven to deliver what you are asking out of their 200cc ported LT1 casting.

IMO those Darts would be a bad idea. Now if you were building a 421+ci motor and looking to spin over 7500 then maybe think about them.

yeah see thats what kinda bothers me. I don't want it to be a torqueless dyno queen. Though I've read some say you can't put too much head on a motor. I probably will just go with ported lt1 castings.

why not get the dart pro 1 lt1 heads? the are 180cc intake and would be tons more practical for a 355 motor. they are the same price as the ones you have a link to.

You can put to much head on an engine. For a 355 I would deginatley go with some stock castings . The AI heads would be a good choice because the only Lt1 cars I can speak of from seeing them at the track are the AI heads and my heads that I had ported. And I have kicked AFR Lt1 cars *** at the track. Last weekend I ran into a little 355 6 speed car with a set of AI heads and its best et NA was inthe 10.80 range . I think it did run a 10.76 one time . My 383 with a TH350 Very best would have been in the 10.90 range. BTW I looked the car over and no N2o.

People are WAY too quick to ASSume aftermarket is better and blindly believe those who tell them so despite a glaring lack of proof.

Ported GM castings are the right choice for most builds.

As cast aftermarket castings are not a good choice. There are instances where ported stock castings are a good idea but that is a very small percentage of builds.

I found some for sale used that were a good deal.

Appreciate the replies I think I'm definetly going with ported lt1 castings.
