Default 1.7 rrs and the lt1

are they too aggressive for the valvetrain? what's the major issue that everyone seems to run into with them? do other companies rockers fit into the lt1 head if they have the same stud size? (ex. ford)

I have never heard or know of anyone running 1.7:1 ratio rockers on an LT1. Hopefully someone will chime in that have better knowledge on this, sorry can't help you here.

I've heard of some people doing it a while back, but I hear nothing now. I'm just curious as to why.

I started a thread asking about 1.7's lastnight. Some guys in there were talking about clearance possibly being an issue with them, so you'd have to recess the valve covers or get some aftermarket valve covers for them.

What do you mean recess the valvecovers? Take out some of those "cross beam" things in there?

You either have to beat them out, or heat them and press them out. They were saying that the LT4 valve covers have more clearance though and would probably work.

Yes, they do make them for the LT1s and, yes, I've ran them. They worked great and netted a faster ET than my 1.6s. Supporting mods like bigger valve springs and guideplates are needed. Aftermarket or modified original valve covers will be needed for clearance. Scorpion is the brand that I had and they were awesome. Lightweight and durable. I will be installing another set on my next LT1 project.

i see nothing wrong with 1.7 rockers, personally after seeing how the roller end sits on the tip of the valve it appears to be perfectly in the middle of the valve stem which would definately work more efficient. it does make me wonder if the amount of gain from the ratio is the reason for the gain or is it the positioning of the roller on the valve! i think its the combination of the two.

I have Comp ProMag Hi-tech 1.7s but I don't have the motor in the car yet so I really can't add anything useful to this thread yet. Sorry.

When I was looking at doing RRs in my LT1 I never heard anything good about 1.7 rockers. Maybe things have changed since then, but most of the guys putting down big numbers were still with 1.6s. Check out z28.com for some more info. The always seemed to be really knowledgable over there and had more LT1 threads than anything

I dont see any reason not to, maybe you should chime in with some SBC guys and see what they have to say since they play around with things more...

Anyways, im going to be using 1.7 with upgraded springs

I think Brady was running set with a custom cam not too long ago.
It seemed like an odd thing to do and I can't remember what the explanation was.

The big problem is clearance on the guide plates.

1.7s would be great for trying to take advantage of a lower lift cam. Most of the cams we are trying to run are already in the .600 lift area with 1.6s.

They could be a great up grade to a hot cam or such. you would probably need to notch the guide plates to get them to work

Great budget-wise, but the timing events and lobe slope would be all distorted.

THAT Would be the reason for using them They would not be distosted per says but more every where they make little cams bigger.

BTW Anyone notice NASCAR is using cam that run 2.2 ratio Rockers?

Now I'm interested, how would it change a hotcam for instance? Wonder if anyone has run one with a hotcam, really it would be another expense I really don't need, but depending on how much power a 1.7 rocker might be worth.......
