Default Do i have a auburn or torsen?

I have a 95. stock 10 bolt with 410s and i believe a 3 channel rear because i dont have traction control correct? the reason im asking is because im about to do a fluid change and i want to know if i need to buy the Gm additave (part # 1052358) to put in with the gear oil.

also what weight oil and and brand are you guys running?

thanks!

If it's your original it won't be a torsen.

Yeah you need the additive. I'm not sure if the torsen started in 98 or if it was later than that. Someone will know.

ok thanks. what weight oil do you guys recomend? my rear has 120k miles on it and i just want it to last until i have the money for a upgrade. would a thinner weight or a heavier weight add more protection/life to the rear?

99+ were Torsen. That's what I went with when I got a new rear. I just like having gear posi rather than clutch posi.

Torsens are great for street use, but the carriers are about as durable as the rice paper Kwai Chang Caine has to walk across once traction is applied. Auburns are much more durable for track use.
The torsen was an option for '96-'97 SS.

And I'll never see a track, so glad I went with it

I don't see how the Auburn is better though. Those clutch packs can wear our and I'd think under more power would go out even faster. My 91 and 93 both had some issues keep posi around right hand corners, and it wasn't from body flex. My 91 you could jack up the front left, and the front right and rear left would go up with it. Damn thing didn't even need SFC. Left hand corners, no problem, could put it sideways w/o an issue, but right hand it'd just 1wheel. And yes, both have posi My 93 wasn't 1/2 as bad as my 91 was.

I bought the Zexel/Torsen HD model from SLP a long time ago, when I did my gear change.(blind purchase when I first started modding) . Anybody know what the main deal was that made this one different?

The case is slightly thicker in places. No, it's not that much stronger.

I like my Torsen. It works flawlessly and it makes for some really awesome burnouts.

I should specify. The Torsen carrier is full of holes for oiling purposes, but compromises structural rigidity as compared to a much thicker Auburn carrier.
I loved my Torsen... until I went to the track and cracked it in half 400 miles away from home.

I agree. However if you're doing a burnout and accidentally only get one wheel wet to where you perform the one wheel peel then the clutches can **** the bed very quickly. In time, when the clutches get weak then the one wheel peel will be more prevalent.

for an aurburn with stock cover, 1 bottle of the GM LSD friction modifier with a full fillup of gear oil. make sure you put it in first before the gear oil so it mixes quick.

for a TA cover, you can fit another bottle in it.
