Its hit and miss. some guys run 6800 all the time without trouble, some spin a bearing at 6300 the first time they hit it. On the stock cam you wont make much power over the stock limiter anyway. I would just leave it alone for now.

Welllllll..... Had a problem with the ported MAF, *coughmistakecough*, effecting shift points on my A4 (somewhere in excess of 6,000 rpm at 145,xxx miles on the engine in the 2-3 shift.... racing a steeda mustang no-less) spun a bearing. Like stated its hit or miss. Really depends on how the engine was taken care of.... and unless you're the original owner, prepare for the WORSE.

I'm now in the process of rebuilding (which i have no idea which route i'm heading in), but its always good to have funds ready. Especially if you are racing your daily. Just think twice about how it will affect you.

I wouldn't go much above idle if you want to be safe...

Mine let go in the burnout box feathering in the area of 6800 - 2 rod bearings. Still ran a 12.8 @ 114 cam only with the 2 spun bearings. Died in the burnout box, again at the line, and then when I got on the brakes at the end of the run. It was toast.

Sprayed mine to upper 5k with no issues for quite a while before I cammed it.

^ generally you don't want to shift into OD at the track so I assume he wanted to know the top of 3rd.

6375 on the stock bottom end.
Higher under low traction.
25 or so track passes, plenty of street abuse.

Maybe I was lucky.
(having said that, I'll probably spin a bearing tomorrow on the way to work)

If it's an auto you have to take converter slippage into consideration.

I have a 6400 chip in my MSD and just hit it at the stripes. Highest mph was 118.96 with 28 tall MT E/T street, 4.30 gear, and with a converter with about 5.8% slippage. I shift at 5600 and don't make any power past that, just have a quick first 1/8 mile and drink coffee the rest of the way.

putting a manual vb in is still stupid. the computer will shift faster and more accurate than what anyone else can.....netting you consistancy and faster times....
